What killed the song was NO RADIO SUPPORT and The song itself is no DWUW/Gypsy.

The initial strategy of launching GUY was perfect, sans the ARTPOP performance at that night show (should've been GUY).

The single choice was bad and radio basically boycotted Gaga.  She went to give interviews on several stations, yet the song peaked at 10M AI

I don't really think y'all understand how marketing works

Another messy thing was the video upload and Gaga's own idea of putting 3 songs in it, other than that it was great.

All those make GUY a TRAGIC era :air:

yes but the marketing was not even mediocre, it was great.  And they attacked "the marketing" not the "era"

No, it wasnt a smart launch. Genius? :smh: The way they put it out made it an non event and the charts shows this.

Did I mention the charts? :awkney:

I meant the very initial launch, like announcing the release date and such.....

Not really. G.U.Y's release was tragic.

Not only it was the wrong choice, but the video was released on Saturday (who in the world does that?) and then no one bothered to push it on radio.

I won't even mention how the video had 4 minutes of credits or how SXSW had nothing to do with G.U.Y and it only brought bad controversy.

The G.U.Y era had nothing good or smart marketing-wise. A kid would've managed it better.

Is that why it had more views in its first 24 hours than  Adore You by Miley (right after Wrecking Ball), 1D's video and Katy Perry's Birthday etc.  (actually any video released this year until Anaconda came out).

It almost went top 100.  It's a 3rd single after a HIATUS and tragic PRESS and bad Media Attention.

It initially peaked higher than Katy's last 3 singles.

What killed the song was NO RADIO SUPPORT and The song itself is no DWUW/Gypsy.

It was far from "Tragic".

If she announced the single (like Katy did with Birthday) and then released the video, it would still flop like it did now, but it would have even LESS views.

It had less than 10M Ai, nothing could have saved it.

I dont know if we should start again. I personally didnt use the word tragic, but now that I think about it, it doesnt seem for me far from the true. :toofunny:

Promo spots that made Gypsy rise and not GUY, launch at the end of the week , which means that those first 24 hours views that you talk about went to nowhere as the song didnt chart that week, a song that didnt made it to top 100 on Itunes, radio promo without radio playing GUY even when Gaga was there. :ARTPOP:  Maybe some people need to remmember some things about how GUY was handle it.

Also, when the stans have a war between Venus and Gypsy as the third single, not announcing GUY as the third single doesnt seem smart either. Anyway, it doesnt matter now. I just answered because the word genius used to describe the GUY promo was something like a punch in my face. :awkney:

I dont know what you are talking about. If I remmember correctly the release date was announced by others. The charts just shows how effective the promo was, but anyway everyone can have their own opinion.

The release date was announced by Gaga at the SXSW Keynote......

GUY's marketing/promotion was tragic.

David Letterman ? :lmao:

There is noooo excuse.

David Letterman has NOTHING to do with the initial launch. I'm talking announcement and such. Like she let people talk about the video shoot for a while without us knowing what video she was shooting in PLAIN SIGHT. That made a lot of buzz, especially in California. Then she goes and does her most controversial act in a LONG time and announces the video just the next day. Pretty smart if you ask me, and let's not forget, G.U.Y.'s first day views still amounted to more than those of Katy, Miley, etc. who are "slaying" :manicure:

I know the overall promotion for the song was, well, nonexistent, but the initial stuff looked really promising IMO :)
