I know they have to get ready for their Las Vegas show, but there is still a week in November and a whole month of December with multiple promotion opportunities. As of now, we assume that the Thanksgiving and Christmas week discounts alone could bring in about 80,000-100,000 copies. It also seems the album will move a further 65,000 copies before the Thanksgiving discounts and about 30,000 before Christmas in December in case it has regular price at those periods and no further promotion at all. if we consider this scenario, Cheek to Cheek will go GOLD by the end of the year for sure, but going PLATINUM that fast seems unlikely. If we witness more promotion from their teams, a more flexible discount approach, a couple of TV appearances, the possible Grammy nominations and the PBS special being re-aired on some other channels, then Cheek to Cheek may go GOLD even faster. Going PLATINUM this year still seems a far reach, cause the album needs to sell 80,000 copies a week on average starting this week. Cheek to Cheek is still phenomenal in terms of how well received the project is both, critically and commercially. Going jazz after a pop album which has been stamped as a commercial failure by media was one of the most risky moves she has ever made, and yet it resulted in such a bold, authentic and charming sound, giving her a chance to improve mentally after all the hard backstage drama with ARTPOP.
