Smell of Death?

A new study suggests older adults who lose their sense of smell may be at an increased risk of early death.
Researchers tested the ability of over three thousand seniors to identify five odors ... Including peppermint, fish and orange.
Five years later they followed up to see how many of the participants were deceased.
They found those who scored lowest on the smell tests were substantially more likely to have died than those who scored the highest.
It's still unclear why smell loss contributes to earlier death ... but in this study, it was a bigger predictor of mortality than a diagnosis of heart failure, cancer or lung disease.
Experts say smell dysfunction does not cause death ... but it may be an early warning of a serious health problem.

Actually this article, did not explain the details very well. But what is actually going on, is that some of these seniors were not able to distinguish the smells between the fish, pepperment, ect. That is why they are loosing their smell sense. So it is actually better if you were able to distinguish these smells. The seniors that did not do very well in  distinguishing the smells, died a few years later. Therefore lacking a sense of smell means that something wrong is going on inside of you health wise.
