"Black Holes Don't Exist", Claims Scientist

When a huge star many times the mass of the sun comes to the end of its life it collapses in on itself and forms a singularity - creating a black hole where gravity is so strong that not even light itself can escape.

At least, that’s what we thought.

A scientist has sensationally said that it is impossible for black holes to exist - and she even has mathematical proof to back up her claims.

If true, her research could force physicists to scrap their theories of how the universe began.

She claims that as a star dies, it releases a type of radiation known as Hawking radiation - predicted by Professor Stephen Hawking.
THE BLACK HOLE INFORMATION PARADOX

One of the biggest unanswered questions about black holes is the so-called information paradox.

Under current theories for black holes it is thought that nothing can escape from the event horizon around a black hole - not even light itself.

Inside the black hole is thought to be a singularity where matter is crushed to an infinitesimally small point as predicted by Einstein's theory of gravity.

However, a fundamental law of quantum theory states that no information from the universe can ever disappear.

This creates a paradox; how can a black hole make matter and information 'disappear'?

Professor Mersini-Houghton's new theory manages to explain why this might be so - namely because black holes as we know them cannot exist.

However in this process, Professor Mersini-Houghton believes the star also sheds mass, so much so that it no longer has the density to become a black hole.

Before the black hole can form, she said, the dying star swells and explodes.

Here is a video of her, talking about time:

No one really knows these kind of things.

There are theories flying all over the place.

In my messy era.

A she not he. She is basing this claim on mathematical proofs that she claims to have discovered.

Not a scientist if he's saying that IMO

Well, this doesn't mean anything unless other scientists contradict/accept this theory.

This is what I love about science. The continuous movement and debates.

Normally I wouldn't disregard someone so fast without giving them a chance to explain, but I don't really have time right now. Since the Daily Mail posted it, I'll assume it is wrong or flawed for now  :usrs:

Ones persons opinion. :coffee:

However blackholes have never been proved. Its merely a widely accepted theory

There are theories for everything but science only really started taking off some 200 years ago. Were still young in terms of knowledge

Many theories we take for granted will no doubt be proven all wrong in time :toofunny:

Then she'd better hurry up and discover what lies in the center of Galaxies, holding billions of stars in an orbit around it, if not black holes. I mean, what else can have so much mass and gravity without being directly visible? I am curious as to how this will turn out.

One second I'm a troll, then suddenly the troll is me.

And there is more.

I am a physics major, and in her defense, this is not just her opinion. She claims to have strong mathematical evidence. So Black Holes are not completely disproved yet, but scientists will a--lyze her work further.

You forgot an o from that symbol in the OP :udidnt:

OT: idk anything about physics and space, but I wonder that how can scientists examine all this from earth

Yes I did :haha: .

But scientists are able to study space with advanced telescopes, all other kinds of technology, and scientific and mathematical laws proven here on earth that apply to the whole universe.

She can be right for all we know. Everything was once a theory at one point before being proven. At least she has math to back up her claims.

Science is really intriguing, one discovery or experiment can change everything we once all accepted.

It's science, bitch

There is a HUGE difference between a theory and a scientific theory. This is just a hypothesis from what she has learned, but it will take a while before it is considered to be a scientific theory.

This kitten over here (meow)
