The numbers vary depending on who does the estimates. But the lowest numbers suggest a cost of around $1 trillion in GDP while the Highest estimates put it around $1.75 trillion.

High regulation particularly regulation added by Democrats in recent years discourages entrepreneurship and business projects and doing business becomes an increasing hassle with rules after rules. It also makes companies think twice about setting up in the US

Of course there are benefits to regulation as well especially to protect the consumer. It is difficult to decide what the right balance of freedom vs regulation is

the article isnt really clear if its speaking in annual terms or decade terms

Sometimes the US speaks in numbers refering to a decade. Its the only Country that does that tho. Everyone else just uses annual terms

But its probably annual. In a $17+ trillion economy $1 trillion per decade ($100 billion a year) would be too insignificant for a problem such as over-regulation

if you add up the totals and look at the over all scale ... sure .. but individually, many small to medium scale business that operate marginally to begin with are shut down because they can't meet the stringent guidelines... the means fewer jobs ..

oh yeah for sure

My boss compains about the costs of rediculous rules for little things that dont matter. Safety requirements and technicalities that at the end of the day dont do anything

And were always having meetings from officials giving us lectures and useless training on pointless stuff which my boss has to pay them for. On top of that were not working and being productive during those meetings were always having

Just another example of how Liberals are destroying businesses in this Province. Democrats are doing the same in the US :MANiCURE:

What exactly is over-regulation? From context, it sounds like there's so many things in place that prevents businesses from running optimally.

it can be just about anything thats a rule

It can be a very small thing like the colour a certain warning symbol has to be and it can also be major stuff such as competition rules on how and whats allowed in an advertizement etc. Too much stuff to list

Anyway regulation is important. Without it there would be no order, there would be a lot of dishonesty, exploitation and monopolies dominate everything

That being said, if u over-do it on the rules, making business in ur Country can become expensive, a hassle and companies are less likely to wanna do business there :MANiCURE:
