Background info I feel passionate about this topic mostly because my mom, who has 5 sons, worked two jobs minimum wage to get us a better life and so far she has my brother first in our family to go into any higher education after hs because he's witnessed how hard she's struggled.. And you know who's paying for that college my mom. And she's laying for my tuition as well. It breaks my heart hearing how all that's people can sit behind their screens and be rude and so snobbish about people who work in fast food. Like ew... I'm just repulsed

 

This so much! People are insinuating that those who work minimum wage jobs are doing it because they don't want something better. They aren't considering the circumstances that many of these people come from or have been thrust into. It's not always feasible or even realistic for people to leave a steady job. Maybe they are working that job because they have transportation there, the hours allow them to be home when their kids are home or they have pre-existing health conditions with themselves or one of their children and need to keep their health insurance.

 

Your mother sounds like the hard-working women I was talking about in my previous post. A couple of them were single moms and they were working that ****ty job to try and make a better life for their children. They could have chosen the easier path of welfare and government assistance, but they were also trying to set an example to their children. These people should be commended, not criticized for the fact that they didn't grow up in a two parent household that allowed them to extend their education for four or more years or live with them for years on end.

i think people are missing the point

No one is putting anyone down for their circumstances

But regardless, some jobs are simply worth more than others. And as a low skill job any highschool drop out can get, its naturally gonna a job at the bottom of the chain and u get payed according to that

Realistically the only way u can get rid of big income gaps and poverty is if u have a well run communism

But i dont think anyone here wants that. And Communist places tend to be poorly run

I understand that point of view.  My mom is a social worker and gets paid less than a teacher, works just as hard, and doesn't get that large amount of time off.  BUT, a lot of teachers are still underpaid.  So are social workers.

i dont know any teacher that is under-payed

Maybe in Portugal where i used to live. Definitely not here

Not all teachers get paid 60K btw.  Average pay in Tennessee is about 45K.  And that is the average.

Isn't this inflation? Raising the workers income would mean you have to increase the amount of money that is needed to pay for the good and then the dollar is less value, correct? Or is that another type of situation?

 

Either way, I'm not going to pay almost 5$ for a fast food burger that's ridiculous and not even worth it. This **** is getting worse than gas prices.

well if minimum wage is raised 10% lets say that doesnt mean everyone will get an equivalent raise if any

If minimum wage was $7/h and they raised it to $10/h someone who was already making $10 before might only be raised to $12. Someone who was making $15 might be raised to $16 and someone making $20/h might not get a raise at all

So inflation usually is less than what minimum wage is raised by so for ppl making minimum wage its worth it... For ppl making more money its not worth it :MANiCURE:
