mostro 0
because it's an interview and sometimes people aren't as succinct as possible yeah it was meant as more of a hindsight is 20/20 kinda thing.
danhale 0
In my opinion he's just a coward who doesn't want any kind of backlash.
LordDisick 1
no ones asking him to be part of this lgbt "movement" :
Willy Wonka 4
yeah it was meant as more of a hindsight is 20/20 kinda thing. oh hahaha i thought it was a legit question. At least that's how I'm reading it. It's not that he doesn't care about gay rights or anything. It's just that he doesn't want to be the "gay singer". That's why I'm so for this. I think it's about time that we have an LGBT celebrity who has no interest in sensationalizing their s-xuality. How is he normalizing being gay by vaguely singing about gender less individuals? That's not normalizing that's trying to avoid being polarizing so you can sell music. he did not sign up to be a role model/advocate but I mean he's in the public eye and he could use that attention for good but I guess that's not his thing. whatevs no ones asking him to be part of this lgbt "movement" : you're playing semantics now and it's just cringeworthy you've made it clear several times you're bitter he doesn't want to be a gay advocate and now you're pretending like no one expected or wanted him to be a gay advocate when you literally did
mostro 0
JUST BECAUSE HE IS GAY AND A CELEBRITY DOES NOT MEAN HE HAS TO BE THE NEW FACE OF THE LGBT MOVEMENT. who is saying this???
Willy Wonka 4
its crazy we have all these pop girls who does and not even a gay himself who is saying this???
LordDisick 1
your totally misinterpreting all of my posts
Willy Wonka 4
your totally misinterpreting all of my posts is your implication not that because he's gay, he's expected to be a vocal gay advocate?
mostro 0
@Willy I don't think that was a legitimate call for Sam Smith to be the "face of the lgbt movement"... I'm just saying you have to be kind of a dick to say you don't want to help oppressed people because you don't experience oppression in your personal life. Did the "my family and friends have made it feel normal and I'm not going to stop that now." not rub you the wrong way at all?

How is that gender less? He is out in the public eye. He is the first out gay male to have a BB top 10. By living his life as he normally would, that shows that he is like everyone else. His music and his talent and the fact that he made the choice to be out before he ever released his debut album, is using his attention for good. To sum them all up, it's easy to be cynical about his reasons. You're bashing him for supposedly not being empathetic enough, but have you ever thought about what effect becoming such a vocal, public advocate could have on him? Willy Wonka 4
no i dont think anyone expects him to bebut the fact is he is gay, and just happens to have a platform, so why not use it a little to shine some spotlight on the fact that lgbt kids make up 40% of the homeless youth population for example?______________________________________________________________________Why must it be "such a vocal public advocate"?
