On some level you're right. Every body should have the equal opportunity to pursue whatever they want without fear of discrimination. However, many mainstream religious texts don't feel the same. It's nice that you want to modernize it and all to fit with your world view, but if you just keep changing and adapting and morphing what is supposedly the word of god, why continue to have it at all?
