Black man arrested for sitting down on a public bench

Well, they received a call that somebody was loitering around the area which is odd enough when he was just sitting in a public area where other people can sit.

Once the police arrived, he explained that he wasn't doing anything wrong and that he was waiting to pick up his kids. I don't think it should have escalated to the point where he was arrested. He clearly wasn't being aggressive and he had a very legitimate reason to be there.

Which I agree was wrong, but I don't see how we can just jump to it being a racial issue, that's a really serious accusation to make.

News are reporting he was in an employee only area

The charges were dropped because he was in a public area. A guard apparently came up to him and told him to move because he "didn't look like someone he wanted to sit in that area". The police records do not indicate that Lollie did anything to alarm the guard aside from refusing to leave.

Somehow him sitting on a public bench escalated to him being tasered and arrested by police officers who claim they were just trying to find out what the story was. He did tell them he was trying to pick up his children.

It is a serious accusation, but I have never heard of a white guy sitting on a public bench and getting tasered and arrested while waiting for his kids.

It's a pretty bizarre thing to happen. Maybe race isn't an issue and the police officers are just excessive in the way they deal with the public but i'm sure there are a lot of people who sit around and go back and forth from that area.

Police officers are just generally excessive in general. I'm certainly not denying that there is a large racial bias when it comes to the justice system and cop forces, there way too many numbers to prove that, I just don't particularly feel like this is one. If I refused to answer an officer's question and started walking away, whether I was actually doing something illegal or not, there's not gonna be a surprise if they start getting a little forceful with me, they're trained to be paranoid. But once again that's in no way to excuse what the male officer did, it was way out of line is definitely worthy of consequence and punishment.

No Angel

Reminds me of the video of this random Black male trying to make his way through a Mall/Plaza type setting and he got in between a Gaza protest, got maced by a small security guy and handcuffed. Messy. :fail:

That's stupid and disgusting, that officer should have left the dude alone. He was just waiting to pick up his kids.

Horrible... You can find so many videos, where US-American police officers are extremely violent, illegal and self-righteous. If something like this would happen here in Germany to a citizen, it would be a scandal.

Did both of the police officers get a disciplinary punishment for their abuse?

I think racial profiling was done by the person who called the cops on him but honestly all he had to do was show his I.D. and everything would have been fine. Instead, he chose to pull out the race card and start a scandal.

I'm not saying race isn't the issue here, but by him refusing to show his I.D. he just made the police officers think he actually was a suspect.
