Gaga tweets about Robin Williams, mentions BTW Foundation

It isn't a cute, little outlet by a pop girl.

The site has contact numbers and a list of resources to help connect those individuals, who are looking for help, with others and/or organizations that can help.

How easy is it to find this information on the vague af site? Do you think a suicidal person is going to randomly peruse a vague vanity organization's webpage? this is the original reason that i got upset with her a while back. this foundation doesnt do that much and yet was so hyped up at first. why not promote the foundation more often if she feels that strongly... she, like the rest of us, only think about these things when its already too late, seeing someone else has died.  that all being said, she did have good intentions but...intentions arent really helpful

If there is one thing I have learned about working with depressed people is how they appreciate that there are sources to programs/outlets that could help them because they are unaware of all the help available to them....

For those of you criticizing her for this maybe you should actually try being more involved and understand why Gaga decided to mention it rather than dragging her or talking about the public backlash it will cause... :coffee:

If it even saved one person's life the tweet was worth it

the last sentence is very true. even if it is just a vanity project for her to fulfill her messiah complex, its worth it but still somewhat annoying.

Y'all see a "plug." But I see that she took an opportunity of a sad tragedy to send positive energy out there with a foundation that she created to help people, such as those with depression. At least she's trying to do something good about the situation...

after the fact? why doesnt she mention the foundation more often. only mentioning it after something tragic happens is a bit...not good. idk. she always has the best intentions but sometimes that just isnt enough especially when it comes to a nonprofit...

It has numbers and information for multiple issues, including a suicide hotline, and for multiple countries. The links are easy to find.

This has nothing to do with vanity. The site is there for help, for those who need it and for people around the world that happen to follow Gaga on twitter.

A person takes their life every 13 minutes. It may be too late for Robin Williams, but it may not be too late for the many who are contemplating suicide at this time and in the future.

Im just saying this isn't all the foundation was ever supposed to be, a website with links to hotlines that can be found vvia google just as easy. The entire foundation seems like a vanity project to me since its not done ANYTHING outside of touring with her and yet that stopped too after the hip. A foundation doesnt rely on the hip of a popstar...thats my point. all seems a bit odd. obviously lots of people in this thread see it as such.

Not good enough for you? Perhaps, you should contribute to humanitarian organizations that care and treat individuals dealing with depression if it's something you're passionate about. Expecting a pop star to go beyond creating a million dollar foundation to spread awareness and provide helpful information to those in her fan base that she can reach? And if you had attended her ArtRave, you would know the BTWF used those concerts to reach people throughout the summer.

No, I do know the buses stopped after the hip incident. I don't think anything will ever be good enough for this issue but I think being the president of a foundation should take up a bit more of one's time regardless. Any celebrity can create a foundation, lets be honest and easily raise a million bucks especially after debuting at Harvard with Oprah and Chopra but in the end has it done all that much? No. Most people ask if its even still active... Just seems like it could be so much more given the hype. I dont think an organizaton that hands out a 1800 number needs to be praised at harvard...

And btw, I do as much as I can for this issue. my own boyfriend committed suicide a few years ago. What she has done, doesnt impress me on this issue. More could be done, this org just seems aimed at her own fans and no effort is made to help non fans... is that really how it should be?

Those links and numbers have been there, at least for the past year. I could care less about what a few haters, whiners and trolls think of Gaga's tweets, and I could definitely care less about your preferred avenue of how suicidal people should get help. I don't care how they get to the help, who leads them there, or anything else of such insignificant nature during a such a critical time period....just that they find the help they need. If someone wants to skywrite the suicide hotline number in the sky, I'm not going to criticize them. This is about WAY MORE than "the criticize Gaga hour".

Sometimes, people should just give it a break. Some subjects shouldn't be about a new, exciting opportunity to get their criticism game on.

In this situation, it is both inappropriate and insensitive.

Public figures are held accountable for what they do and say...if that is criticism to you, oh freaking well.

As someone who struggles with depression, It made me cry when I heard about it. It's very sad when someone gives up on themselves.. and Gaga was completely in the right to tweet about the BTWF since it has resources for every type of issue out there.

Then why did you argued with me about it and now you're arguing with another user about it?  If you didn't care at all, you wouldn't reply to any of this.

Yes they are, and what Gaga tweeted was completely appropriate.

I never said it wasn't appropriate. It was the obligatory post that everyone made after Robin Williams died. My point is, she doesnt mention it unless a tragedy happens. Its not as if every single celebrity didnt talk about this... Gaga is no different. The intentions were good, the results are good...but it just seems a bit obligatory.

You are the one who was worried about what random people would think. I'm saying the same thing I said to you last night. Nothing has changed.

What did the outside world think? 20/20 mentioned it tonight during their hour long tribute to Robin and during the segment about depression, along with tweets from a couple of others. The only place I've seen any type of criticism whatsoever is here, on Gaga's fan board.

Well screw me for worrying about Gaga getting backlash.  <Still didn't answer, if you didn't care like you said, why are you still arguing about it with two users?> Yet, I never dragged her for doing it, but I was worried that she COULD'VE been dragged for it.  You made all out said that I hated her for doing it, that she was an evil woman.   Which, keep in mind, that was posted as soon as this thread was created and anything could have happened at that point.

Was I wrong, that she didn't get backlashed (excusing the few trolls that would troll her no matter what)?  Yes.

Am I angry that I was wrong?  Not at all.

But, hey, f*ck me for worrying about her.
