Benji 20,113
"Lady GaGa" was more than just a simple fantasy though. A simple, shallow fantasy would be a kid stanning for Katy Perry just because she has big breasts and the kid wants to look like her, AKA all image with no substance. Gaga captivated people not just with her incredible, creative looks but also with her words. She was like a mad genius who so threw herself into her work that it was hard to even imagine her living a normal life. She instantly became a larger than life icon. The thing is, she does a lot of that same stuff now, just without the fearlessness, the confidence, the personality, and the perfectionism. It's not the fact that we know her better that kills the fantasy, because we were close to her during the BTW era as well and yet she still kept it mostly alive back then. It's the fact that she seems frankly boring and out of touch a lot of the time. Like someone said earlier in the thread, she's aged too fast. She just turned 28 yet she acts much older than that. I understand she's been through a lot and that she was exhausted this era, but that doesn't make what we're saying any less true.
Rome 176
So you mean by being herself, she is killing your fantasy? I mean that now she is not acting 100% gagaish she is killing the fantasy that she presented us for almost 4 years and thats why I would prefer that she drops the Lady Gaga name if she is not going to respect the character that she made up
Alien Tulip 12,428
Pop music will never be low brow. I too miss the old gaga. That's why I got so into her. She was fierce, and wild and fearless and all these things I wanted to be. She represented a kind if artistic intellect and a striking mind and wit while being able to captivate me in lyrically, sonically, delicious music. I kind of saw the return of that gaga when DWUW started to come around, but to me it never came out in full. I don't dislike gaga. I love her very much so still. She's been my go to for 6 years now, and I'll always support her, that doesn't mean I'll blindly follow or like her work, which I haven't since TFM. But I'm not jumping ship over it. I hate when some fans say "well go stan for Katy or Britney or whoever". Why? I stan for gaga I just don't like what her music has become, and I prefer her persona from 5 years ago over her now. So I'll still stan, and just hope I like her next ablum. I'm the same way. I miss the old gaga and how she would always meet expectations but ever since ARTPOP she's been really boring lately for me. I haven't enjoyed a gaga performance since swine fest but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop being a fan. I will say that I'm not as big as a fan as I was 3-5 years ago. I don't even listen to her music anymore sadly but I hope her next album is at least good.

If that's the way you saw it, fine, but you can't blame her for not living up to something that never existed. That's why I called it your fantasy. She never said Gaga was a different persona than Stefani, you just took it that way, and expecting her to live up to your fantasy is unreasonable. monstereo 1,232
Remember when there were articles about Gaga doing 'normal' things? As if she was some unhuman creature or alien? I miss that type of mystery surrounding her.
Ronk 14,762
The public looks at celebrities as being larger than life. But they are just people trying to make their way through life like anybody else, just people who's occupation happens to be in entertainment. Gaga now is giving us a glimpse at the person behind the curtain, and I am so here for that. I think her evolving new image is more relatable to more people, and nothing but good can come from that. . I live outside the space time continuum. Brandon 457
She opened to much to the public and lost her creative looks and mysterious appearance. She can go back to it but she won't be as powerful as she used to be. The best is to use her talent and go the rock direction.

aaronyoji 2,054
Ou can't really keep up this same persona ur whole career, I mean media an fans alike are already feeling like this era se was just a characture of herself, which makes sense. U can't keep whipping out the same tricks out of your hat, it becomes vacuous
Ronk 14,762
with many of these replies, it now makes sense how computer generated pop stars and celebrities can actually get fan bases. You don't want real people, you want fantasies and characters. This is so true. I live outside the space time continuum.

PMKKARDASHiAN 8,570
See...I think this describes Gaga perfectly now. But over the course of her career, she has continued to open herself up to her fans, like no other current artist has managed to do. It's the perfect combination and she's someone I can completely relate to. I don't need someone to live FOR ME...to represent "what I want to be". I go out and live my own life, the way I want to live it! Many fans make the mistake of finding their self-worth in some artist that they will never personally know. Gaga is an artist that I can relate to and that I respect, in too many ways to get into at this time. :) I wasn't saying she needed to live for me, I was saying for me at 19, when she came out, I was still finding myself and insecure and shy and coming into my skin and I admired her for her presentation, but she forced us to see this strong woman when a girl with a bad past was behind the mask. That's what I referring to. I'm 25 now and living my own life, I just meant at the time she was a beacon for me, and I'll always love her for being that catalyst in my life. I think the people who will no longer be intrigued and will become bored of her are the people who were here for the fantasy. I am among those who are here for the real person. It's a very interesting situation, though, as both the fantasy and the real person are so amazing and extraordinary. I live outside the space time continuum. Her voice is stellar and a class all in it's own so she will never bore me...she just doesn't excite me. Does that make sense? And I listen to TF mainly. Idk why it's being labeled as basic when it came out and revolutionized and galvanized the pop scene. I still think it sounds as fresh as ever
