More to follow... :( edit: Chief Superintendent John O'Hare of Greater Manchester Police, said: "An incoming plane has been escorted into the airport by the Royal Air Force as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board. "We don't know how genuine this threat is but it is absolutely vital we deal with the situation as a full emergency. "As a result people will see the police and other agencies at the airport and on the airfield. "At this time I would urge them not to be alarmed. "Our response will be as comprehensive as it is proportionate with the safety of those on board and in and around the airport our paramount concern." It must be fairly serious if they've closed the airport and are diverting flights, and have the military jets. I hope nothing happens, and this is all just precaution. At least the plane landed safely. :) I guess, I'm dreading my mum finding out about this, she's not a good flyer at the best of times and she'll be freaking out once she knows it's the exact route we're taking (and judging by flight times, the same flight). I think if the situation was diffused, it won't have too much of a negative impact, I'm just interested to know what was going on now it's landed and is presumably fairly safe. I'm flying Etihad in October into London and out of Dublin, but I'm not gonna get worried. I mean in life, there are things you can't control. When the subway and buses in London got bombed, I was travelling to London that day. I had been in Amsterdam and took the train to Brussels to then take the Eurostar to London and when I arrived in Brussels there were announcements about if you want to change your dates to go to the booking desk and I was sitting next to some guy in the waiting room and I asked him what was going on and he told me about the bombs. But like i had no choice I had to travel to London that day because my flight was that night and i had to get back for work. It was scary. I remember sitting at the station in Brussels waiting to get on the train and crying because I didn't know if it was the right thing to do, and trying to contact my parents. But since then I've thought about it and I mean you really can't control stuff like that. I was lucky I wasn't arriving into London earlier in the day. I would have been using the tube, but you just never know. Like I could get on a train in Melbourne and someone could blow it up (God forbid)... Just found out QR23 is the exact flight I'm gonna be on too From the sounds of things, this wasn't as "big" (for lack of a better word) as originally thought, and I don't think it's going to cause a huge thing, so hopefully she'll be ok about it! Completely agree with what you said, and that's the look I like to have about it. Once you're on a flight, I don't see the point of worrying anymore, you can't get off and you're not really in-control anymore so its useless panicking about stuff that could happen. It must've been awful for you in that situation! I remember when those bombings happened and my best friends dad was in London with work at the time, and could've easily been caught up in it. I was at her house when it happened and it was horrendous seeing it unfold on the TV, and everything being really tense until her dad rang to say he was ok and not involved.
