uo111 5,285
This is another topic, but she KNOW about birth control since she's in medical school for nursing. So she planned to have three kids! This is about a $200K loan that other people shouldn't co-sign. :P She got pregnant at 18. And her dad is a pastor. I'm taking a WILD guess here, but I'm gonna say they didn't teach her about it. The US system cause people to be more responsible in the first place and make people work harder, save & invest more. We don't play around over here. LOL If a lot of loans are forgiven then the companies would lose money and have to lay off more people. That way of thinking only works if we educate people. These people are idiots and should have never taken out this loan. The system took advantage of their ignorance, which is the problem. Forgiving loans not the best, but we shouldn't take advantage of peoples stupidity because that ultimately harms everyone.

And the UK system actually puts the students first* The UK system's "company" is government-owned anyway, not sure if it's the same in the US equivalent/s. *Or at least helps them a bit more
AyaKara 2,282
Yeah, but why go to a private university when she can't afford it? You can go to a 4-years public college for $50K, maybe less if you go to community colleges for the first two years. Private universities offer a lot of things that public schools might not such as job placement, more individualized programming & advisement, & specialized courses. It depends on her situation & what school she was attending. It could have also been the only place she got accepted, or if it had a great, well-known name, was worth it

You can go to a 4-years public college for $50K, maybe less if you go to community colleges for the first two years. Why judge people's actions when it's really none of your concern? There could have been multiple reasons she needed to take out the money she did, and maybe she had a repayment plan worked out. $200K is a lot, but we know very little about the situation or her personal financial literacy. We just know she's dead and we also know to never co-sign a loan.

I feel terrible that this girl died and that the parents have such a financial burden, but I have a feeling that there was some financial mismanagement that led to the situation. Maleficent 6
I'm sorry but who would ever taken out 150k dollars extra in loans and have a co-sign? Poor parents, and poor woman. but that was so not smart. "Poor" was a pretty bad choice of words... Why did she need $200k though. Healthcare? Miel 15,009
Some federal loans have a specific statement, where if the student dies, then debt is liquidated completely. Wondering what happened here. 3 points in and ready for more
Brooke Hoegan 1,020
maybe I will sound close-minded, but why do you even make 3 children before finishing college ? it seems as irresponsible to me as co-signing 200k $ loan...
