I hadn't, but I just watched it then and I agree it was very moving. Often these things become very political but he managed to keep it very 'human'. The same Dutch radio DJ that did that world record for being on air is also making a "musical monument" for all 298 that perished in the flight. This is an independent newspaper who want's to tell the truth and not what they're told to say by mister Putin. This really is dangerous to do, the previous person who made an article against Putin/Russia was killed so..... I really admire their courage. I mean I know nothing about the paper, so I thought maybe it was government propaganda, but if the paper is anti-government (to some extent), then yeah you could be right. A lot of Australian media ONLY mentioned the Australians who'd died in flight MH17. Not a single mention of the other 10+ nationalities, eventhough Australians made up for only ~1/12 of the flight attendees. I was pretty shocked to see how much it was only focused on Australia. Considering that newspaper is a 'vocal critic' of the Kremlin, it doesn't surprise me that they would print something like this. Why would they apologise only to the Netherlands though? I know a majority of people on the flight were Dutch, but it's affected so many people around the world. If they're going to 'apologise', apologise to everyone who lost someone on the flight. Because there's a lot of anger in this country against Russia. If the Russian government apologized, you'd know that it's because of that (as Russia is about to have a big recession; 15% of the people's income goes to 'defense'). But the people apologize to the Dutch because they know that they're the most angered and hit. They're not going to put flowers on the Dutch, German, UK, Belgian, American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealandian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Philippino, and perhaps even more countries I forgot their embassies, right? I live in the Netherlands and people don't have any idea how much this infected our country. Wednesday we had a day of national mourning, the first since 1962. The whole country was quite for a minute, people hang the national flag at half mast, there where 8 silent marches through the country, thousands of people went to see the 40 hearses heading from the airport to the identification at Hilversum, our King, Queen, PM and many politicans went to the airport to meet the 2 airplanes with victims. I know every victim, no mater what is equally terrible, but I haven't seen these things in other countries. They are apologising to a sad, but also angry country that experiences it's own 9/11 which Russia is partly responsible for. I saw this morning in the news that the US...parliament(? ) had a minute of silence for the perished people. The man speaking said that the Dutch had a great national tragedy and if you count it to "US population" numbers, the amount of Dutch people that died in the plane crash would equal 3600 US citizens. If you know that with terrorist attacks of 9/11, 2977 died, you see the impact 194 has for such a small country as ours. By no means I wanna say that our loss is bigger cause you can't meassure artrociousness and grief, I just wanted to give you an idea what it meant for us as a nation.
