Why ARTPOP was a success

ARTPOP

An Idea that was converted to reality

So yeah, the era might have been rushed and kind of 'lazy' performances wise.

And commercially wise...although it entered the top 10 albums of 2013, it doesn't match the exact sales of her previous albums but considering the low sales this year for all of the artists, I think she did pretty much great!

But theoretically, ARTPOP was a success. An idea that was converted to reality.

So what is ARTPOP? This is the question we've been all asking ourselves since the era has begun.

ARTPOP according to Gaga has alot of meanings (It could mean anything...) but let's talk about it's clear meaning.

Gaga described ARTPOP as "a celebration and a poetic musical journey" and an exploration of the "reverse Warholian" phenomenon in pop culture.

Pop Art is a form of art that depicts objects or scenes from everyday life and employs techniques of commercial art and popular illustration. So to sum it up, Warhol focused on putting Marilyn on the canvas.

While Gaga made a quite interesting reverse to the idea. She essentially wanted the ART to be on Marilyn or on any other commercial star.

Now, some of you could say that the idea is 'boring' but with a little research, you could find out that ARTPOP and the idea of reversing Pop Art is quite interesting.

"Pop art celebrated objects and ideas that were not only familiar but also ba--l in their content."

Pop Art is used till this day. What you see in commercials is basically Pop Art most of the times. They bring famous pop culture stars to present their product. Pop art can arguably be found inside your Happy Meal from McDonalds.

Gaga wanted to reverse this idea. Why you ask? Perhaps, she truly felt the control of commercialism in the current age so she wanted to say a statement about it.

According to Gaga, she always was ARTPOP. Now, she is celebrating this fact that she succeeded with all of her past works. She may not be the first artist to use ARTPOP in her work but she is the first one to create this movement.

So the idea might be boring for you and it might be unnecessary because you want the TFM Gaga to return....but the fact is that Gaga was always ARTPOP.

ARTPOP as an idea will forever belong to Gaga whether people will be interested in it or not.

EDIT: This is a thread for people who are actually willing and interested to read it. Please no mean comments! Thanks

So the era was a success because Gaga is interested in the idea?

I think for the era to be a success, she would have to succeed at getting other people interested in it too. I'm not saying the era was a failure, but you provided no proof that it had any impact.

I really like this topic. Through all the bullshiz we may not see this ARTPOP movement as it is and how Gaga has her vision. I hope it will continues but with the theatrical and musical influences from her past eras.

I mean I loved the era! It was my first era so I may be biased. But if Gaga was happy and loved the material she released and loved the message then it was a success for her and us. :) She is happy now!

Probably on Grindr

I would have to disagree with you when you say that Pop Art could be what's in your happy meal, to me Pop Art is taking a piece of Pop Culture, Like Marylin Monroe, and putting it in a museum and ARTPOP is the opposite, you are taking the art ie, the Birth of Venus by Botticelli and putting into Pop Culture, into a commercial market

In my opinion, 'ARTPOP' is a success, not in the sense of the album, but in its honest vision, because it has been the period where Gaga has found a place in the minds of many celebrated artists, musicians etc. as a truly talented woman, and from there, a whole new chapter of her career begins.

This. Gaga living for it is not enough, that just means she's devoted, not a success

ARTPOP was not a success. It's a failure, but she can recover from it if she plays her cards right. She's talented enough to.

You're a chartmonster obviously :awkney:

Really? she claimed that all of her ARTPOP work had been rushed and turned out not the way she wanted it to be, except for G.U.Y (maybe, who knows?)...

Its a success because she wore a few 'ARTPOP' dresses around London? that's why?

She failed to deliver the idea to the mainstream world, to the masses, its ARTPOP, pop stands for popular which we all know how that turned out to be :ohwell:

Plus, she said that the BTWB was chapter one in her career, and next thing you know her next era is a homage to her past career, to me it looks like she ran out of concepts.

Well first, this was just my opinion on the topic

But to answer you, converting an idea to reality is already a success in itself. And she definitely did it

Well okay, but that's a pretty low standard for success because by that logic any work of art that gets released is a success. I think Gaga is clearly unhappy with how the era went (for obvious reasons), I'd be shocked if the era in any way resembles the vision she had for it during the 2 years leading up to it.

I see what you mean, but it does not prove that it was a success in fact. Her VMA performance was changed so she couldn't express applause as she wanted, the same went to the single choices and all the promotion.

Her outfits during London promotion, G.U.Y video and stuff were the only things that really worked out I guess. If I remember well she was not fully satisfied with the era herself

But it is nice to see someone appreciating whatr she has done anyway.
