THE CLASSIC FILM APPRECIATION THREAD

copy-cropped-header1.jpg

I couldn't find a pre-existing thread for this, and with all of the hype for Cheek to Cheek, I thought it would be a perfect time to kick back and relax while watching some classic films. I've always loved spending late nights listening to Frank Sinatra, sipping red wine, and watching old movies; I hope some of you share the same passion!

Whether they be films like The Manchurian Candidate, Some Like It Hot, Sunset Boulevard, or even classic film noir like The Maltese Falcon, discuss them here!

PSYCHO is the best horror film ever

THAT IS ALL

Psycho is like the Madonna of Horror films. :legend:

Rebel Without a Cause

I almost mentioned that one in the OP. Great movie, even though I think it is a bit overrated.

Holy crap the trailer for that movie looks crazy. I might have to watch it sometime - seems like a Human Centipede type of movie.

Don't forget the flawless and legendary All About Eve!

Aaahh Bette Davis, the ultimate screen icon! I absolutely adore her and All About Eve is one of her best films :legend:

Great film! :legend: I think I'll watch it again tonight, and probably The Killers after that.

I haven't watched All About Eve in a while, and now with some insight from Gaga's career and life, I think it's an interesting movie to watch at this point in time. It's funny because that film was made so long ago, yet it still holds relevance in today's celebrity world.

It's like Margot was Madonna and Eve was Gaga, because Eve snatched Margot's weave and took her seat on her throne, except Gaga probably wasn't anywhere as conniving as Eve was. Still an interesting insight on the true face of show business.

I never thought of it in that way, that's an interesting and very true concept! I think it was even worse in those days for fading stars...showbiz is a b---h!

It sure is. And eventually you end up like Norma Desmond, haha. Gaga's final SNL skit where she's old and forgotten makes me draw instant comparisons to Norma Desmond, and I find it very saddening.

Yes, unfortunately most stars end up like that. Have you ever seen Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? That's my favourite Bette Davis film, an absolute classic! The character of Baby Jane is very similar to Norma Desmond, it's definitely Bette at her best!
