Economy 52,854
She didn't pull over though. She stopped her car in a highway where people were travelling at high speeds. I don't know if you've ever had a highway scare where someone was illegally stopped on it, but I have. It really is difficult to stop. Everyone is usually travelling for several hours at a time on the highway, and you don't expect to see a stopped car on it because there is no place a car should be stopping. You really do not notice it until you are on top of the person. I think she is incredibly stupid for doing this. In drivers ed you are taught that you run over small animals instead of causing accidents. Additionally, it is not only illegal but against every form of common sense to stop in a highway. With that said, the sentence is way too extreme. She is not learning anything in jail, and its a very unfair sentence for a moment of stupidity. I agree. It was a stupid move and it resulted in death. But this is more like manslaughter due to negligence. I do think the sentense is kinda high. Although we do not know the details. If she had something else on her record for instance, that automatically makes it less likely they will be lelient with her when deciding her sentence. I can't believe that some people are actually defending what she did. You just don't stop your car in the middle of the highway, period. The sentence is too extreme, though. Dangerous Man 9,245
Why didn't she just parked it in a right place then saved the ducks. :fail: "A little less conversation and a little more touch my body."
Nathan James 7
Why on earth should she go to prison anyway? She's hardly a threat to the public. She'll be having a tough enough time already most likely, simply trying to process what's happened. She doesn't need a prison sentence stacked unstop of it. What she did was silly and unfortunate and mostly happened through bad luck and sudden, rash decisions. Throwing someone is jail for 14 years just so that society can kid themselves into thinking that it will prevent it happening again, that we are all safe but misfortune and will make her a 'better' human being (whatever that means) is ridiculous to me. Take away her driving licence etc, make her and society aware of how dangerous this was in better ways. To most people this will just be a headline they forget about the next day. Putting her in jail won't stop bad, regrettable things from happening. As long as we have cars traveling at this speed with human beings in charge of them, similar things will happen. We are all lead by our emotions, so pretending we are better than her isn't really sensible. I feel so sorry for her and the victims families. I don't know her personally, but maybe she needs advice and counselling rather than a room with a locked door.

Cody Draco 2,531
People are more important than animals. I hope she learn that in prison. No we aren't. We are just animals ourselves and we are overpopulating the world. :awkney:

Cody Draco 2,531
life in prison is a bit extreme, but she did cause the deaths of two people. she didn't MEAN to cause their deaths. but she did. Very sad. Hope she learns that you can't just stop in the highway like that.. theres a reason why you don't. cause this happens. Over the lives of some ducks. imo thats so stupid. Good that she cares about these animals but honey, you ended 2 peoples lives. People >>> Animals. Don't try to argue that. Yes they both deserve an equal chance at life, but in this high danger situation.. people win. This could have been a lot worse too. People = Animals hunty. Learn to respect nature. People like you need to learn we aren't above nature. :awkney:
VISION 52
Jesus christ, the whole situation is VILE. Why did not the biker change lanes? When I drive, I am so freaking scared of motorcycles. They drive so fast and have almost 0 protection. Almost all bikers I have seen have been careless driving and speeding like crazy. The woman on the other hand was bizarre stopping like on the photo on the highway. at people saying that animals = people. Hunty, 2 ducklings =/= 2 people. I feel so sorry for his wife. These 2 people must have had so many dreams/plans, and now they are gone. Tragic...

garnite 8
this is not an argument about whether other animals are more valuable than humans. it's an argument about her driving skills and use of judgement in determining whether or not she was making a safe decision for everyone without putting anyone at risk. she did not do that. nowhere does what she did suggest that she took human life as merely collateral damage for the protection of non-human animals.
