Im picturing the dead's family going around praying she gets life in jail, even though the death was wrongful and unintentional (and did not even physically involve her person) and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.... I can't imagine being in her position. I mean i know what she did was incredibly incredibly stupid, but people are self convincing, morals aside. You can convince yourself that "it will be ok if im just gone for 2 minutes" and people do this all the time, with illegal things or not. The feeling of confusion in this situation would be enormous. Shes young, probably still very immature. Being in the courtroom, to be pronounced LIFE in jail for this would probably shatter me. Suicide as soon as possible. I mean.. shes in the wrong, but i feel for her regardless, its sad because the deaths were not intended. Maybe you should have read the article then. She's definitely in the wrong, but as punishment the law is there to correct and I doubt she'd ever be likely to make this mistake again. Even pulling over in the emergency lane has procedures you follow, to keep yourself and others on the highway free from harm. Everyone should know you can't stop in the middle of a highway. She stopped her car in a highway where people were travelling at high speeds. I don't know if you've ever had a highway scare where someone was illegally stopped on it, but I have. It really is difficult to stop. Everyone is usually travelling for several hours at a time on the highway, and you don't expect to see a stopped car on it because there is no place a car should be stopping. You really do not notice it until you are on top of the person. I think she is incredibly stupid for doing this. In drivers ed you are taught that you run over small animals instead of causing accidents. Additionally, it is not only illegal but against every form of common sense to stop in a highway. With that said, the sentence is way too extreme. She is not learning anything in jail, and its a very unfair sentence for a moment of stupidity.
