I'll talk about the monster ball first. I think the lighting really enchances the performances in a way the artrave doesn't. To me, personally, it seems messy and I'm not that big a fan of lasers. Back to the mb, for example, I love the just dance performance. How you only see gaga's and the dancers' silhouettes, because of the fog and the lighting from behind. I Also love the paper gangsta lighting and the eh, eh, lighting, and during the whole show, it's obvious they spent a long time designing it, because it's really intricate and transforms the stage in a way, with the use of patterns and very distinct coloring.

artRAVE and Roseland have the best lights. But overall, artRAVE is the best!

I also love the lighting in the fame ball, especially during paparazzi and lovegame.

In my opinion, the lighting for the artrave is sort of bland, and I can't really tell the difference between performances based on the lighting, which I can in previous tours, not because of set pieces or costumes but the lighting. To be honest, it just seems rushed and like they quickly threw something together.

Yeah you've got great points. I understand what you mean. Thanks!

I'm already slayed by the artRAVE lighting, and I haven't got my date yet, so yeah, artRAVE all the way.

Oddly enough, I'm gonna go with BTWB. I mean, the first few shows were horrendous with lighting. But, as time went on, it actually got incredible- the way the stage and castle were emphasized at different points and structures, little intricacies out into the audience, and even the small individual spotlighting. By the end of the tour, the lighting was absolutely incredible- some of the best I've ever seen for any stage.

MB's is also amazing, and I don't doubt that artRave's will improve (show 1 to show 2 was already a huge improvement).

This. artRAVE's lighting is definitely amazing (my second favorite), but it's mainly just flashy and colorful.

The Born This Way Ball's lighting, actually had to illuminate and change the way people visually perceive a single structure (the castle) throughout the entire setlist. So technically, it was MUCH harder to program. Hence why it took so long for the lighting to actually look good. The lighting designers obviously had some difficulty with deciding what they wanted to do. As someone who is interested in lighting design, I can say for myself that illuminating something (especially if you're trying to make it appear differently every couple minutes for two hours) is much more difficult than just flashing lights and lasers everywhere, as seen in artRAVE.

The BTWB lighting...it was jaw-dropping. I've never seen anything like it, especially for a tour. To illuminate a single structure that dramatically and theatrically, it's like something I would see at a Disney theme park. It was THAT amazing.

I understand that many people may think it was "boring" because it was more of a theatrical approach (static and darker lighting designs) than a modern concert approach, but you have to take into consideration the sheer effort that it took to program. Which is why I gave it the vote for best lighting.

Future Lover

I want to say BTWB.

artRAVE is a close second, but unless you're in seats/towards the back of GA you don't get to see it all. I was at the barricade and you couldn't even see the lasers. :(

The BTWB was otherwordly IMO. Although I wasn't there personally, the pictures of the castle are beautiful.

(Worst lighting goes to Roseland)

Again, this is not to put down artRave's technical aspects, but BTWB was really something else. As I said before, BTWB's lighting and little visual technicalities at the start were actually pretty horrendous. Good thing she had her own performance capabilities and incredible charisma to carry the show, because looking at the videos, it took at least a month until the lighting got somewhere pretty (maybe around the Philippines' show- before the Oceania leg). In Gaga's defense, the crowds loved it all anyway.

What artRave has in its advantage that BTWB didn't is practicality in size. True that it spans farther than any of her own tours, but it doesn't have the immensity that MB or BTWB had (in particular, BTWB- the stage was huge). As SS77 said, the immensity of everything about BTWB was more than likely a definite factor of difficulty in lighting decisions. Even by the shows premature end, lighting was still being worked around. But, to be honest, even by its early end, the lighting was some of the best I have ever seen.

Watching the tour evolve (from charismatic and beautiful but definitely choppy start in Asia, to progressing Oceania leg, to technically perfect European leg, to absolutely fantastic Latin America/NA leg) was an incredible experience, and definitely added to experiencing it in person. I definitely hope artRave will evolve the same.

I watched a BTWB fanmade DVD yesterday while I was in bed (I have the flu :emma: ) and I gained a lot of respect for it

After having seen TMB special, BTWB fan DVD and the artRAVE in person...it's gotta go to the BTWB
