StrawberryBlond 14,196
The amount of ignorance in this article is shocking. "...it’s also necessary to note that half, if not more, of those who greeted that news of the Gaga Dome date were also entirely unaware that the star was even in town." If you'd done any research, you would know that almost all her Canadian dates sold out mega fast - it was one of the most profitable countries on this tour. By all accounts, her Canadian audience was baited and set for those tickets going on sale and couldn't wait for her to come. If there's a place where people didn't even know Gaga was touring, it's Australia. "...the watered-down Madonna track Paparazzi (ironic subject for someone whose entire career has been fed by that, yet also someone who wouldn’t even allow photogs into her show)" Who has compared Paparazzi to a Madonna track? If that's the case, why don't you even name the song it supposedly copies? And the song is a satire, so of course it's going to be hypocritical and when has Gaga not allowed photographers into her show? Her audience is a sea of camera phones and tablets. "...read a letter from a fan whose friend died of cancer and was inspired by Gaga  inviting the surviving fan backstage after the Show  but it was far too calculating to seem sincere." Are you honestly suggesting that this whole thing was a fabrication and a set-up to make Gaga look compassionate? The industry may be black-hearted but I don't think they'd make up a cancer story to make an artist look good. Again, if you'd done any research, you would know that she reads out letters at every show on her tour and not everyone has a really sad story like that. And everyone who's been invited backstage has a very detailed fan account to give so it wasn't someone from the management tossing those letters. "...a glimpse into the artist and singer that Lady Gaga could be. If she did more of that, perhaps more people would know or care about her at this point in her career." That part of Gaga has been evident for around the last 4 years or so. Remember those acoustic versions of songs and ballads she performed on some of the biggest tv shows? For a tour reviewer, you've certainly been living under a rock if you think this is a new side of Gaga that she's never shown. Actually, this side of her is a big reason why people go to her shows - because they love her piano playing and emotional depth and some even wish she did this all the time. This isn't a glimpse into what she could be, it's what she already is, and has always been. And just because toned down performances work for some artists doesn't mean they work for everyone. Gaga is a performance artist and that is what has kept people interested in her and there would be people complaining if she completely abandoned her pop act so early in her career. Gaga is a great diverse artist and that is something everyone has been aware of for some time, except you, it seems.

"may not be an 'expert' but we enjoyed the show, and if the crowd noise was anything to go by so did most of her fans in the audience." "This review is laughable. I have been keeping up with Gaga since she started the artRave tour. Everything that has been posted from live videos to photos have been nothing but positive. Most actually say it is the best concert they have ever been to.I'm going to assume either one: you didn't actually attend. It's pretty simple to create your own review from reading other reviews and watching videos since she does perform pretty much concistantly the same setlist. Two: you're just looking for clicks. I'm going to assume it's the latter. Very sad that people constantly bash Gaga. I'm starting to notice she's becoming the fall back celebrity to run to beat down as if it's a trend." "This is complete bull I was at that SOLD OUT concert it was AMAZING and I did enjoy Hatsune Miku anyone that went to the concert would agree that Lady Gaga was amazing and the picture for this article isn't even from the concert" "I disagree as well lady gaga rocks she was fantastic!!" "Everyone has their own opinions, but this was the best concert I had ever been to. Totally blew my expectations away." "I'm not sure what concert this guy was at. It was one of the best concerts I've seen and being a former Saddledome employee I've seen hundreds!" Truly tragic. I posted a reply to the review. I live outside the space time continuum. Ronk 14,499
I live in calgary and read this article the morning after seeing the show and I was so disheartened. At least a dozen of my friends and even my parents that went, commented on how amazing it was. So, so happy to see the overwhelming support against such a biased article. In the comments section of the article I posted this: "As a critic you only write to build up your own self image and to make yourself seem intelligent, rather than report anything factual. You only write what you think people want to read rather than giving an honest well researched review. You are obviously no expert and definitely not worth reading." and this: "The reviewer panders to the likes of his readership. If he writes what he feels the majority of his readers already think, it makes him look smart in their eyes. Lady Gaga's job is to entertain, and most people loved the show. She presented a show that brought joy to thousands. That is the real story that should be reported. Honest reviewers put personal bias aside and report objectively. The reviewer has proved himself to be a disingenuous, unprofessional person with an agenda of hatred." I live outside the space time continuum. StrawberryBlond 14,196
It is weird when there's one very objective review in amongst a sea of acclaim, which can definitely indicate bias. But I also can't help but think that reviewers are paid to make good write-ups to boost the profile of certain artists because their reviews don't always hold up with the audience's perception, which can be very telling. I reasearched ticketmaster reviews for Rihanna's Diamonds tour (which receieved critical acclaim) and searched for 1 star reviews and there was a ton of them from all over, both the UK and US versions of the sites. Complaints about her turning up late and then lipsynching through her set and not even trying, unruly audiences causing a commotion, even saying that the opening acts were better. And a shocking amount said that they would never see a Rihanna show again. So, how come none of that was reflected in any reviews from professional critics? So, I think it's obvious when critics have an agenda or have been paid, because it was clear this reviewer in particular did have an agenda of his own and was not paid any money to hush it up. Great point. I think many reviewers do not give their honest unbiased opinion. Angela Cheng entered the comments thread of the negative article in support of Mike Bell, so I dragged them both. So much for online kindness tonight. I live outside the space time continuum.
