Was Joanne a flop? (Be honest)

Make sure to show receipts:sure:

But was Joanne a flop? I know it didn't do amazingly well, but I don't think it was supposed to either because I'm sure Gaga knew it was hardly gonna break the higher ends of the charts for long, as it simply wasn't generic EDM and was primarily country.. it was a gift of sentiment to the fans. She's proven with The Cure that if she really wants to crack the Top 10 end of the charts then she could (with hardly any promotion at that).

Was it considered good for a pop/soft rock/country album or was it a general flop? How did it compare to other albums released in 2016? Receipts?

FYI, I personally thought Joanne was amazing.

Saint Hollywood

The album hit #1, making it her fourth #1 album this decade

It spawned a platinum, top 5 single in the U.S.

The album itself is platinum (worldwide)

It had the second-highest debut for a female in 2016

It has out-charted ARTPOP

One of the best selling albums of 2017

Hopefully more people'll be into LG6 if the numbers are creeping up.. especially if she goes back to pop

No. It did better than albums by artists that are currently far further with streaming than Gaga was/is.

There is no flop in Joanne. Considering how little promo it get it slayed.

But you guys are unaware of the good that Joanne made - she let Gaga to create another image - zoned down image that was more acceptable to the world - and Gaga is smart enough to know how to profit from that, you just wait.

It definitely wasn't a smash album, but I don't think it was a flop.

A flop is what Katy's singles are doing right now, not having one of the top 3 female selling albums of this year :hor:

Spoiler

Don't take that comment too seriously :laughga:

Spoiler

Kind of true though :hor:

Supersonic

Best selling album of 2016: Beyoncé - Lemonade - 3M copies sold worldwide

Comparison: Lady Gaga - Joanne - 1,4M copies sold worldwide (so far)

Gaga sold half as last years MEGA blockbluster that kept everybody WW talking, if that's not good then I don't know what is.

This toned down image feels like a watered down Gaga to me :duck:

I think it's the best selling album by a Female in 2017 (Pure Sales) , or at least that's what I read somewhere.

Joanne actually did great in the US, its in the top rankings for sales in its year :) her international performance was subpar but Joanne had a heavy americana vibe that was never going to resonate well outside of the US. Europe & Oceania likes its dancepop. The Cure's international performance is great evidence she still has her international grip.
