Lady Gaga moves Oscars audience to tears with powerful performance

There wasn't a dry eye in the Dolby Theatre during Sunday's Academy Awards after Lady Gaga delivered a powerful performance of "Til It Happens to You." Gaga took the stage alongside tens of survivors of sexual abuse to sing the Oscar-nominated song, which she co-wrote for The Hunting Ground, a documentary exploring campus sexual assault. The poignant performance received a standing ovation, and brought audience members to tears.

Gaga was introduced by American vice president Joe Biden, who urged the audience and everyone watching at home to take a pledge to speak up for victims of sexual assault. "Too many women and men on and off of college campuses are still victims of abuse," he said. "Take the pledge: I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given. We must, and we can, change the culture."

Unfortunately, Lady Gaga lost the Oscar to Sam Smith just minutes after her performance.
