Lady Gaga is heading to Broadway! Actress Rosie O'Donnell has revealed that a Broadway revival of the classic musical Funny Girl is in the works, starring Lady Gaga and herself. O'Donnell told the audience at New York's Paramount Theater that Gaga would take on the role of Fanny Brice, which was made famous by Barbra Streisand.
The news comes just days after the premiere of Lady Gaga's big screen debut A Star Is Born. The film earned an impressive $43 million in its opening weekend, making it one of the highest debuts for a musical drama of all time. A Star Is Born is a front-runner in this year's Oscars race with many movie experts predicting a Best Actress nomination for Gaga.
Gaga previously won a Golden Globe for Best Actress her guest role on American Horror Story: Hotel.
Funny Girl is based on the life and career of Broadway and film star and comedian Fanny Brice and her gambling husband Nicky Arnstein. The musical opened on Broadway in 1964 and starred Barbra Streisand, who won an Academy Award for her role in the film version four years later.
