According to the RIAA's new report, CDs generated $171.1 million in revenue during the first half of 2026 — up 58.6% from roughly $107.9 million in the first half of 2025 — on 17.5 million units sold, up 45.7% from about 12 million units in the same period last year. That rebound is all the more interesting because it follows a rough 2025. Last year's full-year report showed CD revenue had actually fallen 7.8% for the full year, from $338.9 million in 2024 to $312.4 million in 2025, while units sold dropped 11.6%, from 33.3 million to 29.5 million. The RIAA changed how it calculates dollar figures in 2025, switching from estimated retail value to wholesale value. That means the 2024 and 2025 revenue numbers aren't directly comparable. But unit sales, which aren't affected by that change, tell the same fundamental story: 29.5 million CDs sold in 2025, down from 33.3 million in 2024. So CDs were still declining before this year's unexpected rebound. Vinyl sales continue to grow, too. In fact, so-called physical media revenue in the first half of 2026 jumped 25.9% to $731.5 million, driven not only by the 58.6% increase in CD revenue but also by a 17.7% increase in vinyl revenue. I’m glad because physical media is king, I’ve noticed people are fed up with algorithms forcing music (looking at you Choosin Texas) on people thanks to payola. Fun fact; did you guys know that textless album covers are predominantly a thing now because of the previous decline in CD sales in the mid 2010s. Because on Spotify/Apple Music/Streaming you already know who the album is by and what it’s called because it tells you under the album art or before you click on the album to see the full size art — where as CDs needed to tell you who’s album it was when you saw it without context.5 points

Ok but I won’t ignore that lyric bc it’s so good and just encapsulates so much of where she was at that time. It wasn’t necessarily hyperbole either, which is what makes it hit. She’s sadly saying I’m willing to and could be your girl despite whatever baggage you have (bad romance) but even if I was would you love me if I had everything and ran the world? It’s also a paradigm that shows up persistently throughout her career. Ugh. So beautifully pop4 points

So happy I could die and heavy metal lover specially in its bridge are so incredibly good that a lot of people included me have replayed them a lot these recent years they have this obscure, glamorous but tragic feeling passing in slow motion I can’t hear in her other songs, crystal castles and similar bands get close to it, they had a peak of popularity in recent years, do you wish Gaga had done more songs in this style3 points

The UN has approved a new world map blue print/standard that better reflects proportions on Earth as parts of the Globe near equator are underrepresented in size (ex, Africa, Central America), and Northern areas exagerated (ex: Greenland, Northern Canada, Alaska etc). The vote was neaely unanamous with the only member to vote against it being the United States3 points

Something that for a body of it's political importance and role is relatively innoculous and yet the US still decides to make a point of being the dickhead faction at the UN3 points

Too expensive, too big, you have to flip it, and the Vinyl resurgence it's killing CD production, just take a look at MAYHEM, Raye's album, Midnight Sun, etc the vinyls are gorgeous well designed and paid dust to the CDs, I hate when they come without a lyrics booklet or it's just a poster when the vinyl has even a full sized booklet. I hope this brings back those thick booklets with lyrics and the whole photoshoot2 points

That sort of reminds me of a Disco Heaven (vocals) x Gimme More (instrumental) mash-up from back in the day, it had that odd sort of nocturnal kaleidoscopic elastic endeavoring melancholy … ARTPOP sort of has that ambient lingering perpetual liminal diaphanous eternal wanderlust soundfeel in its own way as well2 points

Historically maps were designed to show off the power of empires like the British Empire. That was reflected in the size/scale of which we made maps. Countries with more power were drawn as bigger. Africa notoriously was shrunk in scale on old maps and the UK was made much bigger (hence why for decades British people didn’t realise that the UK is in fact; not even the size of almost a full state in the US).2 points

Excuse me no Kanye's words are cheap until Kanye's actions back them up and as far as I can tell he's just tried to correct his PR, not the harm he's done2 points

I think people are just damaged and vulnerable to unkind thinking. I doubt we have many, if any, true MAGA or right wingers here. Just folks with bad or ignorant takes that range from "yikes" to "alright, get off this site bruh". I'm willing to come off as naive to preserve my faith in people lmao. I'm not sure how I could clarify beyond what I just said in that post but please don't be afraid to report things 'cause we aren't afraid to warn or ban for them.2 points

I've noticed a lot of MAGA-adjacent people on here lately, a lot more than usual. Spouting casually racist stuff that people would have been too ashamed to say five years ago. It's like 10 people at MINIMUM. Personally I would love it if the rules were clarified to widen the definition of what is and isn't acceptable. People are getting comfortable debating some pretty foundational ****2 points

After feuding for the past few years, Kanye West and Kid Cudi have made up and reunited during West’s Chicago concert on Friday night. West performed the past two nights in his hometown of Chicago to promote his latest album, “Bully,” and welcomed several surprise guests to the stage. Cudi joined his longtime collaborator for the first time in seven years to perform “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1,” “Ghost Town” and “Pursuit of Happiness” to close out the show together. On Saturday morning after the concert, Cudi defended performing with West, saying that “everyone deserves some grace” and “he apologized and it was sincere.”1 point

Yeah she brought him out on her tour and berated him on stage for being late lmao He was suppose to come out but he didn’t and Gaga had to stall at the piano until he came out and then she yelled at him lol in character of course1 point

I literally did. In every post I've called out the weird attempt to label it as a west vs islam issue because that's incredibly ahistorical, problematic and borrowing from alt-right/modern right wing discourse which is just christian nationalism. Its not a west vs islam issue. Because islam is not some imported product into the west. Islam was present in western nations including Portugal and Spain from around 710AD. It predates one of the main european sects of christian worship (protestantism) by around 800 years. Islam is an abrahamic religion. Christianity traces its origins back to Abraham. And the patriarchal oppression inherent in many Islamic sect's dogma is near identical to the same patriarchal systems of oppression within all major non-islamic religions in the west. Continually using blatant christian nationalist rhetoric is a red flag.1 point

Because of the lense you talk about it from. Its a major red flag. Especially as I only see you acknowledge issues with other religions when called out on this weird /western/ lense you keep trying to use.1 point

I feel like this is just trying to dress up bigotry through false englightment. Because every major religion is an idealogy. The definitions of religion and ideology are heavily intertwined. But while you're here justifying bigotry against one religion and trying to suggest a higher western enlightenment, you're ignoring that the UK's latest law revision to expand the definition of mandated reporters of CSA has deliberately excluded catholic priests who find out about CSA through confession.1 point
