Madonna earns her 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as her new studio album, CONFESSIONS II, debuts atop the list dated July 18. With the arrival, the Queen of Pop gets her first No. 1 album of the 2020s and becomes the first act with a No. 1 album in the 2020s to have also topped the chart in three other decades. Further, Madonna becomes only the fourth act to have achieved at least 10 No. 1s each on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. On the latter, she has 12 leaders. CONFESSIONS II launches with 134,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending July 9, according to Luminate. That marks the largest week for a dance album this year. It also scores Madonna her best week, by units, since the Billboard 200 transitioned to an equivalent album units-ranked list in December 2014. CONFESSIONS II additionally yields Madonna’s biggest streaming week ever for an album, and her largest pure album sales week in more than a decade. Of CONFESSIONS II’s 134,000 equivalent album units earned in the tracking week, album sales comprise 114,000 (Madonna’s best sales week since 2012 ), streaming equivalent album units comprise 19,000 (equaling 20.1 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks, Madonna’s largest streaming week ever for an album; it debuts at No. 32 on Top Streaming Albums) and TEA units comprise 1,000. CONFESSIONS II was initially widely released as both a 12-track and 16-track album. The project’s first-week sales were bolstered by its availability across 15 vinyl variants, four CD editions, one cassette and six digital download editions. Of the album’s opening-week sales, vinyl purchases comprised 59,000 — Madonna’s biggest week on vinyl in the modern era (since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991).

I mean, those song and album chart stats answer your question. The One That Got Away came out in 2012 Legendary Lovers came out in 2013 Harleys in Hawaii came out in 2019. The only songs of hers that pull good numbers are throwback hits. Her last new release to achieve a BB100 spot was Woman's World at #63 - 2 years ago. Her 3 out of 5 singles since then have only made it to Bubbling Under, 2 didn't even make that. She's not had a Top 10 hit since Chained to the Rhythm in 2017. Her last #1 was in 2013. By definition, she's a throwback/legacy act who's maintained success relies on historical releases.

In a breakthrough rule change, screening for spinal muscular atrophy will be added to the newborn blood spot test from October. The Department of Health announced on Thursday that the national newborn screening programme for SMA will be rolled out across England as part of an evaluation programme from the end of this year. Hundreds of thousands of babies will be screened as part of the simple heel prick blood test shortly after birth. Nelson said: "After years of campaigning, it means so much to see the heel prick test for SMA begin rolling out from October, with implementation continuing throughout 2027 until every newborn screening laboratory across the UK is offering the test. "Today is a day of hope. "Knowing that future families will have access to early diagnosis and the opportunity for the best possible outcomes is something I'm incredibly proud to have supported. "This is a victory for every family affected by SMA. Whilst it can't change the future of our children, I know it marks the beginning of a brighter future for future SMA families." #1 album with 134k first week 44 years into your career with your 15th album is stellar. Not even stellar for just those metrics, 134k is comparable to some debuts from modern stars. She really put everything into this. The quality is insanely high, the roll out was eventful and exciting, and she seems more focused and energized than she has in years. This genuinely is new ground for a female artist her age and it’s so impressive. I’m so happy for her and PROUD of her. Even as a super fan I thought these days were behind us but she is, for the 100th time, proving everybody wrong. I love her.
