I never heard any BTW leaks, never listened to any pre-release speculation, and never watched any Gagavisions. The only hype I had was my brother / friends, and we were flipping our sh*t for May 23rd. Then it came out... and life was over. I'd never heard or hoped for a such a massive collection of pop songs that were so obsessively musical. Every melody, harmony, chord, bleep, bloop, bonk, or buzz felt totally inevitable yet completely surprising. It felt like it fell through a portal from the future where the whole galaxy prayed to Hooker Jesus. I listened to it every day. 2. ARTPOP Second because I respect it more than I love it. Aura blew my tits off the first time I heard it; and I'm positive that history will make Applause a classic. There's a lot to love, and I'm all for Gaga stretching the definition of herself... but I'm with the people who are a little alienated by the album. For me, it's a little less than the sum of its parts. She's flying in a rarefied zone where we're treated to awe-inspiring work like Venus, Swine, and Mary Jane Holland, and bland misfires like... well, I have a list, and some tracks are at the bottom 3. The Fame Monster Only great songs that are connected to great times in my life. Alejandro instrumental makes me misty. But it doesn't have the heft or ambition of BTW and ARTPOP. And I liked the overall vision more when I assumed the "Fame Monster" was Gaga herself -- Gaga turning into an ugly, bloody, alienating, self-devouring version of the star the world fell in love with. I thought that would be a great continuation of her satire of fame culture. (I want to believe ARTPOP is the Andy Kaufman-style self-destructive performance art that I assumed "The Fame Monster" wanted to be, but probably not.) 4. OF COURSE THE NEWER ALBUM WINS. duh, it's not a shocker at all. All the sheep worship the newest thing to come out. That's not fair. If they genuinely like it the best than there's nothing wrong with that, that doesn't make them sheep. BTW and ARTPOP have approximately the same gap from the beginning and the last 100 votes have been added the last 2 months. The two albums have a gap of around 15 votes so why couldn't BTW top it with all these votes? For now these are the true results.
