KP has always been a radio favourite since her mainstream debut. Not solely because she's been out of nowhere appointed as one to a point it should be regarded as absurd. Her digital sales have always been strong, implying the strong interest over her from the casual mainstream music listeners.

Radio has no other option but to reflect that through the heavy rotation of her songs. That isn't irrational, it's expected and warranted. BD is coming after DH, a massive hit. What else should we really expect from radio to do? Drop it like a rock because of a relatively lukewarm reception on iTunes (when she hasn't even promoted it on TV)? They tried to make Uncle happen last year, like they did in almost all of her previous singles. So it shouldn't be a surprise why they're doing the same for BD.

No, but giving Birthday updates like Happy and All of Me is ridiculous. Would it hurt if they at least gave it 1 million updates, instead of 2 and 3 million updates, like it is a #1 iTunes smash...especially when Katy is still getting airplay like crazy with the #3 song right now?!

It makes sense to give chart stars the benefit of the doubt, and a certain level of preferential treatment, but what we are seeing with BD is so over the top, it is blatant and an extreme level of favoritism.

I think this is the main reason why Birthday is pushed like this on radio. They simply want to replace DH from their playlists with another song from her.

Why from her though? They have so much else to choose from

10 Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake - Love Never Felt S...

2 Iggy Azalea - Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)

1 Ariana Grande - Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea)

16 Paramore - Ain't It Fun

13 Ed Sheeran - Sing

12 Nico & Vinz - Am I Wrong

11 Rixton - Me and My Broken Heart

18 Calvin Harris - Summer

17 Jason Derulo - Wiggle (feat. Snoop Dogg)

22 Pharrell Williams - Come Get It Bae

meanwhile on pop radio

Out of the Top 10 on pop radio, none is in the iTunes top 5. Isn't Pop radio supposed to represent what's popular? :toofloppy:

because of the brand. if Gaga would have had a single in top 10 when GUY was released, things could have look so much different today for GUY.

I don't get why radio plays Birthday so much ?? The updates are not proportional to sales and youtube views. It's like they push that song to the GP. It's hard to not believe in Payola at this point.
