Uhhh, don't Katy Perry videos normally send her straight to the top of iTunes? I fondly remember "Last Friday Night" and "One That Got Away" topping the chart within hours of their video releases.

I don't think this is going to be a top ten for her. Maybe not even a top 20. I always thought it was a bad single choice.

Never underestimate a Katy Perry single... Unconditionally was only a flop because Roar was too huge and they were like "who cares we have Dark Horse to smash soon"

I'm pretty sure its gonna be a top 10 hit, they sent out those payola cakes and since then its smashing on the radio, and I'm like 100% sure its gonna be another #1 on Pop radio. Its gonna be enough for her for another top 10.

But even if it wouldn't do as good as they want it, they will use her chart tactics: 69 cent discounts, and cheap remixes with rappers. These always help her.

They played it too safe, that's for sure. Early 2013/2012, when most songs were being made, GUY, Sexxx Dreams, DWUW, Applause, Donatella, Swine, Fashion!, MANiCURE, Gypsy would be considered radio-friendly.

'All songs on the album were designed to be a hit'. That says enough.

And just a year earlier they were all like 'this is very experimental' 'I dont think radio would give it a chance' 'its extremely fresh' 'EDM from 2050', while most songs are typical Zedd productions or typical Gaga songs. The only songs which are actually fresh are Aura, Venus and perhaps ARTPOP.

Relistening the Aura demo :legend: ugh it was exactly what I was expecting for the album :deadbanana:

Yes because a hit must be safe. :awkney: You don't even know when most of these songs where produced and no, songs like Sexxx Dreams, MANiCURE, Aura, Venus, ARTPOP, Swine, MJH are nothing similar to songs on radio. This is half the album, and considering that there is also a raw ballad (that is very different production from usual ballads) and songs that have more 80-90s influences like Fashion!, an RnB song that is a new territory for Gaga (and its also music from a previous decade) and a unique song vocally, sonically and thematically like Applause I don'think that the album is dated at all. And how are all songs typical Zedd productions when Zedd has only produced 3 songs. You are obviously very wrong here.

Sexxx Dreams is synthpop, typical for the last 5 years.

MANiCURE is just rock/pop. Not something new.

I didnt mention MJH, it is a bit fresh.

Swine is just the average EDM song with the usual breakdowns.

DWUW indeed is R&B, but R&B isnt innovative or experimental for anybody.

80-90s isn't experimental or innovative either, is it?

Swine, GUY, Donatella are three typical Zedd productions. Swine isn't produced by Zedd, but it still sounds like a Zedd production.

A hit doesn't have to be safe, but the album is too safe for what was said to be boundary-breaking, experimental 2050 alien stuff and when we were told 'we wouldnt recognize her next time you'd hear her on the radio'. She could've flopped with pride with an album full of experimental masterpieces like Bloody Mary or Aura, but she didn't.

Meanwhile, the ARTPOP Deluxe edition costs €27.99 in my country. That's 39$ :deadbanana: http://www.bol.com/nl/p/ARTPOP/9200000021227559/

Gaga doesn't need to make a new gerne to make a fresh song, are you serious? BTW was heavily 80s influenced, omg its 3 decades dated. :rip: Sexxx Dreams may be synthpop buy its like nothing out there, Pop Rock belongs to the 70s and no Swine is not a usual EDM song, give me an example of a song that is similar and Ill agree. I agree that the Zedd productions are the most mainstream but you seem to forget that all that time Zedd worked with Gaga he also broke to mainstream and influenced 2013 heavily. Its not Gaga's fault that Zedd made a career. Also Zedd is overrated imo.

What makes you think that Gaga promised something else? Its your problem if you create with your mindsl expectations that are on a completely different direction from Gaga's.

Goodnight Luc, going to sleep. :kissga:

One thing for sure: Gaga needs more real instruments with the next album. Piano, violin, guitars.. Synthpop is kinda out atm

I said this and got shade :manicure:

Then why does she promise such things?

And Aura is exactly the kind of songs she promised: very dancey, experimental, fresh, unique. I didn't create my expectations from nothing. I expected to get what Gaga had been saying since mid 2012.

Agreed with all of this, the Aura leak was the most exciting moment of the era, it was everything I was expecting after her year of hyping up the album. Then it turned out to be one of the only interesting/fresh songs on the album.

The fact that arguably the best song on the album is just an old-school RnB re-tread is just :awkney:  Not what anyone would expect from the title "ARTPOP" + her descriptions of how it would sound

I really don't think Aura is that great but compared to other productions by Zedd on the album it's one of the better ones

Where is Madeon to come save ARTPOP :deadbanana:

"Unconditionally" underperformed because it wasn't that good of a song. A lot of people I know didn't care for it. People clearly favored "Dark Horse" which is why it sold more and got radio play even before it was officially released. Capitol put everything they had and then some into "Unconditionally". If it had been up to par quality-wise with Katy's usual efforts it would (or should) have been a #1 hit.

Had "Dark Horse" been the second single, it would have easily been #1 well before Christmas regardless of "Roar".
