Bt1 5,213
Well yeah. I actually think it's completely fair that a pop star of her size gets pushed to at lesat 50M AI to let the song prove itself. But this is the exact problem with GUY, they're not giving it the chance any Lady Gaga, Rihanna or Katy Perry single deserves. After Dwuw mess you cant blame radio for not giving a chance to GUY, a song that its not top 500 on Itunes, even if it has attached to it the name of Lady Gaga. Mariano 958
The thing is that Katy team is always aware of the single status. They watch and act. Pink team doesnt do that. JGMAR smashed without much help from her team. Its not the same thing with Katy. Dark horse was probably the only one that smashed on its own. Her timing is always right and the promo is always on point. I cant blame a team for doing its job. you are right.. but that's a bit irrelevant when it comes to radio being biased. . . unless you are talking about Capitol pushing radio to play Katy's singles, then yeah you definitely have a point but still .. I completely get why they think it has no chance to become a hit, it's a bit of poor timing from Gaga's management. They took a risk and it didn't work out, it happens. Beyoncé took a risk too, and it did work out well for her and her team. But I guess that they're really laughing because they just love the music not the bling-uh.Timing issues in my opinion: - too early video release - too late single release after the second single (obvious! She had so much time to promote GUY in January and February!) - too early radio interviews Radio PRs don't know videos barely affect songs anymore. That's why they think GUY stood no chance when it failed to enter Top 100 upon video release.
GagaMyBlood95 9,901
#90 Birthday It's growing really slow for a song that has 25M Al and the video has just been released... Surprising.. ARTPOP out of the TOP 200 of course...

I am not even comparing the 2 songs.. Just looking at Birthday and Birthday only, u can see that it's getting too big updates on radio... GUY release was bad + the long video and then putting out the short version quickly after.. The only thing executed well was the filming itself, which is really impressive considering Gaga was the director.. Everything from a marketing point of view was BAD. (well not everything, the premiere + the behind the scenes footage was perfect) as you said the TIMING was awful

Whispering 18,865
radio will drop it like a rock when they see that it's going to be like Unconditionally. The song will probably become a Stay The Night-sized hit. No they won't. Radio will do like they did with Unconditionally and continue to push, push, push this song to the top 10 of their playlists- no matter what! Katy's singles get special treatment and they have since the early TD days. 23 = IGGY AZALEA Fancy f/Charlie... 3348 +143 1063 +36 21.029 +0.830 4 24 = CALVIN HARRIS Summer 3278 +74 654 -7 26.538 +0.484 23 25 = NICO & VINZ Am I Wrong 3110 +44 724 -82 15.245 +0.565 15 26 = NEON TREES Sleeping With A ... 2864 +40 236 +29 12.810 +0.147 3427 +1 KATY PERRY Birthday 2671 +269 1609 +121 19.226 +1.838 90 28 -1 DISCLOSURE Latch f/Sam Smit... 2594 -3 230 -68 12.214 +0.017 32 Look at the songs around BD on the chart. Look at their bullets, AIs and iTunes positions! This week, Birthday has consistently had one of the top 2 or 3 highest bullets out of ALL the songs in the top 40, despite being one of the only songs, with healthy gains, in the iTunes 100-200 (or even higher at one point) range. It has also consistently had the second highest AI gain this week. Today and yesterday, it has the HIGHEST AI gain of ALL songs on the chart, despite being a song in the top 30 at the 130 point on Thursday on iTunes. There is no other artist that gets this kind of treatment on the charts, especially for a fourth single. This is the same thing that happened with the TD era. Pure Adrenaline 1,518
Katy just never stops to amaze me ... everytime you see new video by her u would think that she hit the bottom and could not possible do bigger crap than that but yet Bday's video is the prime example that she could do a lot worse It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
psylobin 0
Katy's singles really don't get special treatment though, she makes radio friendly content that's with the times so they're able to retain more viewers and make more money from ads, so let's not start that.
