Tokyo Rose 1,475
"Suddenly the Koons is me!" Artists do not create in a vacuum, as Gaga has said before. So I have never been bothered by past albums drawing inspiration from the work of others. Gaga was accused of plagiarism with the title track of Born This Way, but this didn't bother me because as she said, the chord progression in question existed long before Madonna came to fame. But something I never wanted from her as a fan, was her to actually become a "canvas" for outsiders to sculpt into their own vision. The theme of this album seems to be, a collection of people stamping their own visions on the "canvas" of Lady Gaga. Many other fans complained profusely about the "do it yourself" mentality of Born This Way, is this really what you had in mind? Do we really want other people to come in and "sculpt" Gaga? Would you actually want to sculpt her yourself? I definitely would not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdPwpRP6ljU In the video above, Gaga asks us to share our ideas on LittleMonsters.com, and she says she will choose some of our works to be part of the ARTPOP project. Another issue I have with this album, is how responsive she has been to outside criticism. This is a stark contrast to her attitude during Born This Way era, as shown in the 2011 quote below: “Ignore all hatred and criticism. Live for what you create, and die protecting it.†-Lady Gaga 2011 With ARTPOP, Gaga is constantly breaking "the fourth wall" and responding to criticism. The whole era seems to be geared towards her critics, from message, to music, outfits, performances, etc.

VforVendetta 2,024
I love all the above and maybe this is why i love ARTPOP that much. Anyway everyone is entitled to to his own opinion. (eventhough I believe that this forum has overdone it with the ARTPOP comlains and trashing especially considering that its the same persons over and over again). Tokyo Rose 1,475
If you dont like it GO HOME Well, I am home, I'm not a soldier in the army complaining about gays fighting beside me, I'm expressing my feelings about a Lady Gaga album. But since it's the internet, it's ok to just passive aggressively dismiss my feelings?

PigInsideAHuman 1
well if you don't like it there is always the next album ARTPOP has kind of died on me too Its funny bc when I first heard Born This Way I didn't know whether I really liked it but I think I ended up playing it EVERY DAY without skipping tracks for like....a year. In contrast to that ARTPOP was a quick jolt and fade. At first I thought it was full of hits and was everything I wanted. But only about a month after it came out I already found myself skipping half the album...and now....I only really listen to Applause, Gypsy, Donatella, Sexxx Dreams, and GUY. Aura, Venus, Jewels N' Drugs, MANiCURE, Do What U Want, ARTPOP, Swine, Fashion!, MJH, Dope have all become kind of boring tbh

This is the first time I've said any of this, and I haven't seen any of this articulated in this way on the forum before. I understand most people won't take the time to come up with an actual response to my thoughts, but hopefully some will and we can have some kind of actual discussion. I gave you an actual responce, I said thatI personanlly l like these elemetns of the era. Also I am lurking a lot on this forum and i can notice one two things for other members in here. Believe me it's not your first time. Yep, hit the nail on the head. She really changed, and I wish we knew why. Because with every single one of her eras she changes. She chnaged from to The Fame to The Fame Monster Era, She changed A LOT for BTW era and now she changed again.
Guest
The only thing I hated about the era so far was the responsiveness to criticism. I love the "Lady Gaga is over" video she put out because it defied the critics. She should've stopped it there. The whole DWUW promo on Twitter was weird to me, and the articles at the end of the AMA performance felt like they took away from the rest of the performance. I didn't even like when she blew up on Perez publicly on Twitter. Basically, I like BadassGa who doesn't give a **** what people say and doesn't even grace the critics with a mention of their critiques. That's what I loved so much about The Fame-Born This Way. I feel like she's back in that badass mentality ever since the beginning of this year, especially since SXSW, and I LOVE it.

ryhanna 3,507
Interesting perspective, I've never thought of it like this. It's true, I suppose. ARTPOP is kind of a total backflip on Born This Way, or even The Fame Monster. It's a bit like she's sort of bowing to the pressures to conform rather than "sprinting from sameness." Or maybe it's all part of her plan… You have some very good points, but no doubt you'll be dismissed with a bunch of "bye" and gifs rather than people actually responding with real thoughts. Tokyo Rose 1,475
Because with every single one of her eras she changes. She chnaged from to The Fame to The Fame Monster Era, She changed A LOT for BTW era and now she changed again. The change in image and sound is not the problem. It's the degree of outside interference from critics, fans, and collaborators that separates ARTPOP from TF, TFM, and BTW.
