Mariann 301
I do hope she didn't mean it quite literally because music shouldn't have labels like that. I don't feel alienated, just sad that some people in this fanbase seem to feel that they are more entitled to Gaga than others because she is the only one who understands them. Straight people love her too. :(
Kermit the frog 1,921
Poor you feeling alienated from a pop star for exactly the length of time it took you to read that. You have no idea what real alienation is like. She was saying this because people thought her music was "too gay" - her point was that being gay wasn't a bad thing. Nobody ever talks about "straight music" being bad. You just don't know what it's like, period, and I definitely don't sympathize with your so-called "straight alienation." We should all be so alienated. I agree with the bold, but then again, it's not very good for her to say things like that, especially since she used to preach how her music isn't "exclusive". LaLuna 12,732
I know that this quote is old and that she was only defending herself against detractors who said her music and shows were too gay, like there's something wrong with anything gay, but I wish she wouldn't put labels on her music like that, this is the reason why so many people in the GP assume that you have to be gay to be a Lady Gaga fan. As a 32 year old straight female, I realize I'm the minority in this fanbase and I'm okay with that, but by saying that her music is gay, she does kind of alienate certain fans. Music shouldn't be just for gays or straight people, and while I applaud Gaga for her LGBT rights activism, she should acknowledge the fact that she has fans outside of the LGBT community and that she's making it hard for straight fans to relate to her music and message. Miel 15,009
I don't think it's meant as a means to exclude others?????? Historically, homos-xuality/general queerness has generally been excluded from much of everything. My God if people are gonna think that she's trying to exclude out straight people- she's just trying to be inclusive to queers. Remember BTWB? She had that whole speech of Who is this Laaaady Gaaaga with her crazy hair and her crazy outfits? And what's with that song Just Dance? Her music is soooooo gaaaaay. Well you know what? At least I know who the fück I am. Maybe I'm overreacting (I'm definitely overreacting), but there's this huge fear of association that because one likes Lady Gaga, there's an immediate association of queerness. As if that's a bad thing. As if, for her to be cool, she's got to "get dem straights back", or "not make stuff so unrelatable to straights". Maybe I'm reading way too into it (I'm definitely reading way too into it), but I don't think she's trying to box things in. In fact, with a statement like that, and her statements in general, I think she's instead trying to expand the box, or even destroy it overall. Poor you feeling alienated from a pop star for exactly the length of time it took you to read that. You have no idea what real alienation is like. She was saying this because people thought her music was "too gay" - her point was that being gay wasn't a bad thing. Nobody ever talks about "straight music" being bad. I agree. 3 points in and ready for more

MahoTheMnstr 141
I have absolutelly nothing against gay people. Nothing against ''gay music'' and ''gay shows''. The only thing that bothers me is that if I say I'm a little monster some people automaticlly think I'm a lesbian because a lot of little monsters are gays/lesbians/bis. Like srsly..... Just because I like Gaga doesn't make me a lesbian omg..... And no, I don't feel alienated in this fanbase (well, maybe a little, but it doesn't really bother me). this.. i imagine it most be worse for the male straight fans.. craig 680
That quote is from 2010, when she was swooning from all the love from gay fans on tour, and specifically thanking "the gays" at award shows. Since then she's been taught a lesson from all the hate from Perez and middle-aged Madonna gays. She doesn't talk that way anymore.

craig 680
As long as the word gay has the power to make people create threads like this, Gaga is doing the right thing by using it again and again. The problem is it alienates some gays, likes she's declaring herself the Gay Queen. Reminds me of a article I read about marketing to old people, which said they are an important growing demo BUT are turned off by marketing geared specifically to them. They want products that serve their needs, without being told it's an "old people product". Gays might feel the same way.
