Looking at this in context i.e. replying to someone who wanted her to change her show, I don't get what exactly is wrong in this? I read it more as an exaggerated- "I have loads of gay fans, so deal with it", rather than "haha, straight people not welcome here". Don't see the issue here

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

I have absolutelly nothing against gay people. Nothing against ''gay music'' and ''gay shows''. The only thing that bothers me is that if I say I'm a little monster some people automaticlly think I'm a lesbian because a lot of little monsters are gays/lesbians/bis. Like srsly..... Just because I like Gaga doesn't make me a lesbian omg..... And no, I don't feel alienated in this fanbase (well, maybe a little, but it doesn't really bother me).

I'm straight and I feel alienated, but I know she didn't mean it to the level where I should be bothered.

I just hate when she start talking about her gay fans and she never says somthing about her staright fans like we don't exsist :crossed:

Yes, I do! And I agree, a lot of people will be turned off by a Lady Gaga concert (for example) because she promotes gayness in many ways! But I guess she just feels like she could make a change if she doesn what she does and that is nothing but fighting for equality of everyone!

Of course she doesn't hate straight people or anything like that... It's just that gay people currently don't have the same rights as straight people do so there is really no need in her "promoring" straigh people!

I'm definately not turned off or aliented, she's Gaga and she remains Gaga. Let me get that out of the way. And I can feel how it must be empowering having your icon say such things. That warm fuzzy feeling inside that someone cares about you and is not afraid to speak up about it (like I said I do know what it is to be alienated and it comes in more forms then just s-xual preferences).

I'd rather see her unite people to show exactly that there is no difference as a human being what your orientation is and to me this kinda statement seemed to do the opposite.

this couldn't agree more but for me it's a little harder it's easier to be a girl and be a Gaga fan when u r boy and listen to Gaga u r GAY no matter what :crossed:

Oh, I know it's from 2009 but it's still reiterated to this day. I know that's where she's coming from and I have no problem with her acknowledging that, but there are times where even at her shows, she's kind of in our face about it and it does feel weird for the straight fans. Obviously, I have no problem with her agenda as I've been a hardcore fan since Just Dance, but still.

Oh, but she doesn't reiterate quotes like this.  She might give a shout out to her gays fans during her shows, but she's obviously very welcoming to everyone during her show.  Gaga would have had a much harder time becoming a star if it weren't for the gays in 2008. We were there for her long before the mainstream population.  She hasn't forgotten that.  If she wants to give us a shout out during her shows, I'm sorry that makes you feel uncomfortable or "weirded" out.

Oh no Gaga please...

I like girls so I can't come to your show ? I know this is not what she means but it's like we have to be gay, and excuse me but I don't want this, and besides, what is "gay" ? You mean drag queen ? I don't think all the gay people want to be like the "gay" cliché. It's annoying. No, excuse me but I can't with this... Now when you tell somebody you like Lady Gaga it means that you're "gay", when you bought a Lady Gaga album it means that you're "gay" ? No no non and no, how does she wants everybody to access to her music saying things like this, to open them to her universe ? If saying to my friends I like Lady Gaga is making my false coming out it bothers me a lot...

Edit : Wait this isn't something she said recently ? O_o

Because if she said it years ago it's not the same...

My vision about this whole "my music is gay" and "lady gaga is gay for the gp" is a bit different. Such a stereotype has been forming in the minds of people for two major reasons. Before you read it, please note that I am speaking with love and respect and don't mean to offend anybody!

The first reason or, should I say, factor, is the perception of the s-xual image she is trying to showcase. During the initial period of her breakthrough success Gaga was surrounded by a s-xual image which could be described as heavily conventional for male. She was a s-xy blond girl, combining the traditional stereotype with the flavors of "futurists s-xy girl", something like the girls from TRON: LEGACY, with "anime s-xy girl". She really looked super hot in Just Dance, Poker Face and Lovegame, and also Paparazzi. She could turn male audience on, because she was so young and juicy and a bit immature.

Then in a short time span of 1,5 years she went from that image to the Born This Way looks. They became very surreal and weird, but the s-xuality disappeared somewhere. Some of her Judas era looks :noparty: When she appeared as a mentor on American Idol :millie: I mean I do acknowledge that not all of the girls I've been with are supermodels, but I hardly could consider most of her looks s-xy during first half of BTW era... She became more like a stripper/w**re and also very mature. This ultimately resulted in the dis-attachment with her male audience. People were asking like: why do you like her, she looks like she is 40 and is not s-xy at all? Is it because of her music? But her music with latest record is so much about gays...So you must be gay, too? - This is how all that stereotype that only gays can enjoy Gaga music was born :dies:

The second factor is the message behind her music, but here it's even unnecessary to explain...

I find it stupid, personally, but that's because what I am seeking in girls is also something special. I dislike conventional, manufactured beauty and I do pay lots of attention to the mind and character, because otherwise a girl simply doesn't turn me on. But for a vast majority of males Gaga became gay because she started looking like Cher and sang a song called "Born This Way". This is why I adore Gaga: she has a truly rock star approach, she is being so balls-to-the wall and edgy :rockstar:

This comment irks me.

“Let's get one thing straight before we decide to do this together: I’m gay. My music is gay. My show is gay. And I love that it’s gay. And I love my gay fans, and they’re all going to be coming to our show. And it’s going to remain gay.†- Lady Gaga

What about uniting people through music? Isn't that what it's all about?

Why does music have to be "gay" or "straight"?

I don't get why it has to have such a label on it? By stating such a thing specifically why would you wanna narrow it down as an artist yourself?

I know for gay people it might be a good feeling seeing her state something like this specifically but to me personally I never seen her music as gay or straight or lesbian or whatever, she is an artist with great skills herself, what does it matter in what "box" it belongs?

Uh she just means that it has a big gay appeal, and - importantly, it was - in reply to Kanye she is basically saying it will remain whatever way it appeals to gays
