The hate on Gaga is big enough that it has been hindering her commercial success. Having the media enforcing the fact that you're dislikeable, a flop, not cool anymore, influences the public more than we think. We could say it's the music but judging from other songs becoming hits I'd say that's not it. It is Gaga, what she represents, her weirdness, this fanbase. Call me delusional all you want but Gaga has been trying but people just do not want anything related to her. And sure mention Applause sales and WW ARTPOP sales all you like but having many people/sites/media trying to bring you down does affect it.
