Letting go of expectations could lead to letting go of interest. I think she means the expectation of what the pop industry expects her to do, like in that she don't want to defined by what the current trends do. Basically its her saying that she wants to break out of that loophole of trends and what people expect from an era. I expect things to go really reallly different this time around.
