Raikov 183
By no means is she "over" but people are definitely less interested. ARTPOP can be her style, but it needs to be all about the music. I think this is what sticks out the most to me. ARTPOP described a concept that she tried to live out as a pop star, but it did not describe the music. I do hope she eventually has an era where it's not about the fashion or the videos or choreography or anything else but the music. I don't think America has sabotaged her. "America" certainly didn't "destroy" her because they felt spurned by her canceling the BTWB. Non-Gaga fans mostly didn't know or care. She's been disorganized (Venus/DWUW, DWUW video) and she's fighting a hateful media as well as her own inner demons. Honestly, as long as the music keeps coming, who cares about popularity? If she is a legend, then history will vindicate her. And if not, then at least we have the memories and tunes.
mister 17
Sorry to burst your bubbles, but this is terribly written melodrama by some fan with lots of inaccuracies and subjective statements.
mister 17
And honestly Gaga has sabotaged herself more than the public has. [...] Gaga's ability to create pop hits has weakened or she is trying too hard to shift what is pop(ular) music. Her image and team have all weakened. She needs guidance. She is still banking off TF/TFM/and part of BTW to get her places, but she can't. Gaga is old news by today's media standard and she needs to promote herself just like everyone else if she wants to be on top. Her interviews are sporadic and not usually very fun this era- at least not the interviews she was most noted for in the USA. Everything fell apart without people "sabotaging" her. The actual tea of this thread :trootea: It's silly to just blame celebrity culture, and use "America" as a scapegoat.
itsfabio 113
the reason why she isn't as successful is because she trusted the wrong people with her creativity

I feel like everyone hates my opinion about it. haha It's just easier to deny the trends rather than admit any fault on Gaga's team or part, I suppose. the reason why she isn't as successful is because she trusted the wrong people with her creativity I do think this is part of it, Troy at least, but I also think she was in a bad place mentally even during BTWB and it all carried over. idldte 2
So is Tumblr considered a reputable source now? Anyhow, the reason for Gaga's decline is very simple: the quality of her work has gotten significantly worse. This. I like ARTPOP but it's no where near as good as her past albums. Yeah me too i feel like those are the two major contributions Especially picking singles Like Venus being the original single but due to overwhelm sales on itunes from DWUW they decided to make DWUW because they think it will do amazing (they only care about profit) We didn't see it in TEOG because she didn't announce another single after Judas but they dont care about her creative process they think shes a robot that she can make crazy ideas overnight I will always support her though <

Hopefully she has a good balance now. I just hope she gets it together to do promo for the next big release, because otherwise she won't make it too far. I'm sure things will smooth out though. MMXIX 51
I'm really confused.. And please somebody correct me if I'm wrong when I say this BUT as far as the whole Katy vs Gaga thing goes... How is Gaga even remotely close to being a flop compared to Katy with their recent releases sold about the same amount and Katy is at her peak? And I'm not talking single releases... It seems as though Gaga's low and Katy's high are around the same mark yet because she didn't sell a million records the first week like she did with BTW everybody is calling her a flop. Is this a media thing? Or is the GP turned off by the whole art aspect? I really can't comprehend the comparison between the two of them I see such different motives :awkney:
Miel 15,009
I don't think America purely sabotaged Gaga. However, I do think the commentary about fast paced media-stardom culture is true, and I feel like Gaga unfortunately epitomizes that. I'm just glad that she is (or was, at on point) above the game, at least in her own head. 3 points in and ready for more
Ronk 14,762
ARTPOP can be her style, but it needs to be all about the music. Most probably agree with that opinion so I guess I am way in the minority. I am glad ARTPOP is also about the costumes, album/singles covers, dance, stage sets, Koons' works of art, and everything else. I find it wonderful and refreshing to have an era focused on art, and I also love the music. If she want's to have an era that's just about the music, that's for a later time. I live outside the space time continuum.
fede ARTPOP 6,737
Great article..is true that no only America enjoy watching a superstar rasing from the ashes...but Gaga has been around for less than 10 years...while shes not flopping I still dont know why ARTPOP didnt sell that much...maybe about the promo?? She didnt attend the GRAMMYS for example...but idk MAYHEM / ARTPOP
IAmTheX 0
I dont think Katy Perry really appeals to anyone except for parents who are looking for something "safe and popular" for their kids to listen to. If Katys newest album had a movie rating it would be "G". She does nothing to offend, push the envelope or ruffle feathers in any way. You will not have any profound thoughts while watching Katy Perry perform or listening to her music. She is safe, in the most boring ways possible. She didn't start out like this, but she has been edited into it, and its horrible that she is so successful being such a blatant example of mediocrity. What are we teaching our kids by looking up to people that make art so devoid of thought or feeling. i think children are gettin more and more independient nowadays so I don't think they listen to Katy cause of their parents, but I can see what u mean and I would say it's not the parents but the radio, that stopped playing Gaga when they thought she was gonna make everyone angry with that Judas thing and started making Katy a hit maker cause they knew she wouldn't make anyone angry
