Why is The Fame (Album) so poorly received

I love it! It's an amazing pop album, but I think it lacks what people like about Gaga- her intensity, drama, and theatrics. The only songs that give people that rush are the singles. But as a pop record, it's perfect. Melodies, theme, etc. hit the nail on the head.

The album was a commercial success though...

I think it was a very solid album, concept-wise, and the music quality was consistent throughout.

If it wasn't well received, she wouldn't have had amazing singles like Just Dance, Poker Face, LoveGame, Paparazzi that most of the GP came to know and love her by.

I don't know honestly, I mean I listened to The Fame the other day and loved it.

Been a fan since before Just Dance went number 1, and the FAME is STILL 1 of her best albums in my opinion! Every track is so danceable and easy to listen to, even the not so great ones like Brown Eyes! Now we have songs like DOPE! :awkney:

Beautiful Dirty Rich is still my favorite song of hers, but stuff like Ehh Ehh are really cheesy. And there are quite a few songs like that on there.

By us Monsters?

We should appreciate it, for it got Gaga to stardom and to TFM.

The Fame was for the General Public, which included us because most of us didn't know of her before the album. But TFM and BTW started to filter people from her fandom and most of the ones who stayed definitely liked the new materials more

How is it poorly received? It was her most sucessful album, and I know for a fact a lot of fans would give anything to go back to  the TF era.

That said, from a purely musical perspective, apart from the singles, the album is not exactly groundbreaking. Yes, it's a fun pop album, but BTW and TFM, and yes, even ARTPOP, are far superior IMO. I think it's the whole era that makes that album so special, the fact that Gaga was the new "IT girl" back then and she was just so fresh and new. Now, 6 years later, it just sounds dated and I think it doesn't hold a candle to her more recent albums.

If ARTPOP and The Fame switched releases, you will say "The Fame" is better than "ARTPOP".

Really, it's just because of how much we liked and paid attention to Gaga compared to when "The Fame" was released, and now when "ARTPOP" is released..  Now, I've been a fan since the beginning of "The Fame", but I don't think it's better than "ARTPOP".  I know, that's weird to say.  But it pretty much factors how many good songs they're on the album, when you became a fan of Gags, and how much you paid attention to album releases.  As someone who's paid attention to nearly every release and have been watching closely on Gaga news for around six years, I say:

The Fame/Monster > Born This Way > ARTPOP

Surely, this tells me her music has been in decreasing quality over the years... or maybe there's not enough albums to compare.  But, I have been liking each album (excluding TFM since it was an EP) less and less.  And don't even get me started on her latest marketing plans...

I thought the waits between BTW were bad, but AP is hell.  I'm probably going to state an unpopular opinion now, but her music is getting worse and worse each album release.  BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I DON'T THINK IT'S GOOD.  I LOVED The Fame.. but Born This Way was all over the place and had too many tracks that were just plain unlistenable (Americano, Highway Unicorn, FoHL etc....).  With ARTPOP... there's still a pretty good number of tracks that shouldn't have been made (Swine, Jewels N' Drugs, but this song isn't bad, it's just doesn't fit this album).

Although, I hope I'm wrong, and with her next album, she'll probably create a coherent and "not too different, collection of random songs" album.

TFM>TF>AP>>>>>BTW

Don't know why people are saying it's "Generic" in 2009 that was so fresh and today it still sounds fresher than almost all songs on the radio. It's the album that started it all and took over the radio.

Speak for yourself. It all boils down to taste, but that was the ultimate friday night joyride album! It was so much fun. I guess some people feel like they couldn't connect to it as much because they were more fond of Gaga later in her career. It's the opposite for me, I think. I feel like I'm not as fond of her currently as I was in the past. I still love her, but The Fame will always remain in my memory. I can just put the album in and think about all the fun stuff that happened in the past. My friends and I vibed so much to it when we were in 8th grade. Ahhh... :legend:

But if we're comparing? The Fame Monster > The Fame = Born This Way >>>> ARTPOP

I enjoy a good portion of the tracks, but I really more interested in pretty much everything that she's done since then.

The Fame/Monster > Born This Way > ARTPOP

I don't think I've ever disagreed so much with two statements on this board. I'm exaggerating, but still.

No, let me teach you:
ARTPOP >= BTW > TFM >>> TF

Correct.
