ARTPOP: Is it more commercial or more experimental?

After BTW, it feels more commercial. Not that BTW was exactly experimental, but as somebody above put it, ARTPOP is a lot more tame in many aspects.

It's her most commercial work yet. Only a handful of the songs have that signature Gaga feel or lyrics imo. Still enjoyable, but not as Gaga as I was hoping for when she said she was making dance music again. A lot of the tracks could have been created for other artists and sung by them and no one would have known. I think the fact the album didn't have a genre direction really didn't help. ARTPOP would have been considered experimental in 2008.

More experimental definitely, since the experimental tracks greatly outweigh the purely commercial ones. If anything, I believe ARTPOP has only three tracks which could be considered as meant for radio and commercial success (the two are already released as singles and the other one's Gypsy).

Compared to BTW it's extremely commercial, but when i hear some of the crap on the radio now i think ARTPOP is experimental. Only GUY, DWUW, Applause and a few others stick out as songs that could be successful commercially.

TBH this is a testament to how great BTW was, people will have their opinions on the album but for me it's one of the best of all time and will only be appreciated many years later imo.

90% Commercial based on Gaga's music. Born This Way was a little more experimental. ARTPOP has songs like Aura, which is probably the most "experimental" track on the album, and Applause, MANiCURE and Gypsy, which are the most commercial songs she's released since The Fame. But the rest of the album sounds more like pop music, to a Gaga standard. Some songs may have a rare or unique sound like Venus, GUY, Sex Dreams, Do What U Want, Jewels N' Drugs, Swine, Mary Jane Holland, etc. but they're still pop songs.

On the other hand, look at Born This Way. 60 or 70% of the songs were experimental to radio and pop music standards.

Of course, if you compare it to Katy Perry or Britney Spears, it is obviously more experimental than what the other two popstars usually release.

I still feel like this is the type of album that should've come out after The Fame and The Fame Monster, leading up to Born This Way in terms of "being more experimental with each release". But still, a good album.
