Chic 20,830
I know she does a lot for the LGBTQ community, but she mostly focuses on gay and bi people when she does activism work. Yes, she's mentioned transgender in BTW and at other times, and while that in itself is significant, I think more should be done for trans* people by her, because even if the intent is to cover the broad scale of the LGBTQ community, still there are parts of it that are widely ignored or unknown. Trans* topics are not as widely known as you'd think, and if she put it out there a little more, I think it would really help people in self-identification, because a lot of youth are confused and paining inside, and as society advances, the world becomes slowly more tolerant, and public figures help this progression a lot. Even if you're a fan of Gaga, you might not know what transgender is. In fact, I thought I was gay up until a few months ago, when I fully realized, amongst all the confusion and doubt beforehand, that I am a trans* woman and completely female inside. So yes, even Gaga fans can be oblivious, even if the damn word was in the bridge of one of her most popular songs. Transgendered people may be the largest community out of the LGBTQ spectrum that has the littlest public information about it, and usually the info that is out there is incorrect and/or generalizes trans people as drag queens. There are many s-xualities out there that people identify as, but the fact is that they are of even smaller populations that don't require operations or hormones. There are a few other s-xualities that do desire surgical operations, such as people who want to completely rid themselves of physical gender and remove certain parts without replacing them with the parts typically assigned to the opposite gender. These populations are incredibly small and may not come into light nearly as much as trans people do, so bringing attention to them won't do much considering it's doubtful that it would have much of an impact due to societal feelings and the extremely low amount of people identifying as it, who may not even see the help to receive if. Anyways, putting the spotlight on trans people more will really help to enlighten people of many other s-xualities such as the ones with lower populations identifying as them, so it's another stone in the stairway to LGBTQ acceptance. What do you think? Should she pay more attention to trans* people, who are less known and arguably less fortunate in general than say, gay or bi people? Willy Wonka 4
Absolutely. She needs to stop with gay marriage and focus on actual issues that are negatively impacting the LGBTQA community.
Scarlet Witch 1,630
She needs to stop preaching and start making videos/music.
Chic 20,830
She needs to stop preaching and start making videos/music. Yeah, the real important things in life.
Haus 152
No. At this point in her career, she needs to put her focus on her CAREER firstly. She can worry about other people when her album isn't selling a third of Katy Perry's.
Chic 20,830
No. At this point in her career, she needs to put her focus on her CAREER firstly. She can worry about other people when her album isn't selling a third of Katy Perry's. Just because her career is still going doesn't mean her LGBTQ activism isn't. The creation of Born This Way wasn't her one good deed of the day for the LGBTQ community to throw back in the box and lock up for all eternity. I see people every day talking about how Gaga saved their lives. What do you think saved them, her activism or her career?
TSUNAMI 20,943
I think she is only one person. And she's been up on that stage for only 6 years. Give it time. It will happen.
Chic 20,830
I think she is only one person. And she's been up on that stage for only 6 years. Give it time. It will happen. That's true. In the coming years, people will become more and more tolerant, and the ice will break a little more.
TSUNAMI 20,943
That's true. In the coming years, people will become more and more tolerant, and the ice will break a little more. Yeah, that's the reason we all do it gradually and we all know it's not fair but you know... life is not fair so we need to wait until people get their right to live and not survive. FATCAT 60,005
I'd love her to, but she needs to worry more about getting something out there, or she won't have ANY platform to preach from. This kitten over here (meow)
No Angel 128
Like JFK said, she is only one person. With women like Laverne Cox and Janet Mock as well as countless other advocates, I think a lot of people who are Trans are being represented well. I'd like for her to dive into deeper issues that plague the LGBT community like discrimination/murders rather than marriage. That would be interesting, but give her time I suppose! lazygaga 60
Absolutely. She needs to stop with gay marriage and focus on actual issues that are negatively impacting the LGBTQA community. How is gay marriage not an actual issue? Also the issue of gay marriage does negatively affect people
Alijandro 9
I dont think she has problems giving attention to transgender people (this is Yasmine Petty a trangender model) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPLze873tFc But as a topic, I can see how trans people may feel swept under the carpet when people talk about gay and lesbians but I think the sentiment that gaga is putting out there is for equality in the greater sense. So whilst not directly pointing them out, she is defiantly still giving them attention
GagaHAMISH 0
It would be nice, but I think it should be mainly left with the BTW era. I know it may sound mean but it's the actual truth, she's said was she needed to and she got her message across. I think at this stage she really needs to focus on her career and the music. brownie 5
She shouldn't be focusing on any specific part of her fanbase: rather, she should just consistenly address fans as simply fans. I'm straight and I fully support LGBT rights and have no issue with them, but she often leaves me cold with her constant gay preaching. Love is not specific to one gender or orientation; it transcends labels and works for everyone. So she should preach love to everyone, not just a certain orientation or two.
