hi hyoyeon invited me here from another thread (thanks!!  :) )

i'm japanese and i currently live in Tokyo so i'm surrounded by jpop (and kpop to some extent)

i enjoyed listening to SNSD and BIGBANG when they were marketing in tokyo around 2009/ 2010. there wasnt a day when i didn't see them on tv but it has calmed down since then (probably because of the korea vs japan island thing  )

i've always been a HUGE fan of AKB and i grew up with utada.

other artists that i listen to in moderation are perfume, hatsunemiku, tokyo jihen

EDIT: oh and i love the mr. mr. video!

I love the choreography SO much. It's like quirky but they're so good at it that it's kinda classy too. idk how to explain it. It slays.

Especially compared with...

Hello! It's nice to meet you, welcome to the thread.

Utada! She was the first JPOP artist I listened to. What was it like being in Japan while she was still releasing music? I heard she was kind of mysterious, didn't go out very often... is that true? And did people miss her when she first went on hiatus? I have to admit I'm really obsessed with her  (As you can see in my signature, I created a thread for her haha)

Yeah! They haven't released that much yet (I think just one album in Korean and Japanese, and now this single) but some of their songs are among my favorite KPOP songs, particularly "Bangkok City" (which is freaking PERFECT) and "Aing."

i was still young when she was at her "peak" but she was famous for not promoting her music on shows so i guess you could say that she was mysterious. but when she went on tv for the first time (music station, the show gaga was on), she broke the record for the ratings of the show and that happened for multiple shows. and she was famous because she was bilingual (which was rare back then) and because her mom was famous.

i miss her!! lol

Utada breaking those records! Haha. I discovered her, like many American fans, through Kingdom Hearts and "Simple and Clean," and explored her Japanese music from there. Her English music isn't as good in my opinion. But "Ultra Blue" is like my favorite album ever  I really hope she comes back soon... I think some producer who used to work with her said she was??

"Cried Uncontrollably" kills me. I didn't buy "Sorry" yet cuz it's just like... them repeating "Sorry" over and over again :laughga: I'm gonna listen to it all the way through now, though, maybe I'll change my mind

This is "Bangkok City" for anyone reading who wants to give it a listen:

Both 'Cried' & 'Sorry' are pretty pretty good. Bangkok City pretty much is one of their bests ever :legend: Did you see the MV for Catallena?

do you understand japanese? ive started to learn korean but  :fail:

really????? omg awesome! to answer your question, she had been relatively quiet for a few years even before her hiatus (as far as i know) but once she announced that she was leaving, practically every news channel reported it, reviewed her past songs, touched upon it in one way or another. everybody missed her  :(
