I think I discovered something really cool about an Utada video, and I have nowhere else to share it so I'm sharing it here

At the beginning of the video, the camera’s scrolling through a lot of clouds which kind of look like outer space; it then resolves into her eye, and the video goes from there. Watch the first 15 seconds:

There’s a movie called “Contact†from 1997, where the opening scene is very similar: the camera is scrolling through space, and it later becomes the main character’s eye. The opening scene is below - if you skip to 1:30, you can really see the similarity.

The main character in the movie is listening to radio waves, trying to find evidence of aliens contacting earth. The theme of "Heart Station" is similar, in that she’s singing over the radio wondering if her lover will hear her. So between the similar concepts and the similar opening scene, I wonder if “Heart Station†is referencing that movie?? It would be very cool! I think it's possible because "Contact" is considered one of the best Sci-Fi movies of that era, so I wouldn't be surprised if somebody was inspired by it. There's no other reason for "Heart Station" to start that way.

Nice post, Posh!

I've seen Contact (and loved it!), but I've never made that link before until you pointed it out! I think the vid might actually be referencing the movie, or at least its theme of trying to reach (or contact :fan:) the seemingly impossible. In Jodie Foster's case, it was life outside Earth, and a lover in Utada's case. While different in terms of extremes, both are aiming for something that is apparently beyond them.

Jodie Foster and Utada, two people that I thought would never be in the same sentence.

I'm waiting for my UtadaNet.com account to be activated so I can post it there too :sharon: I really think I'm onto something.

I noticed that TaeMin's album is kinda like 'Mr. Mr.'. It has 3 great songs a.k.a The Holy Trinity (Mr. Mr., Goodbye, Europa / Ace, Danger, Pretty Boy), 2 songs that are good but not as good as the previously mentioned tracks (Wait A Minute, Soul / Experience, Wicked) and one slow ballad that is kinda meh (Back Hug / Play Me)

I'd switch Soul and Europa, to be honest. Soul is so much better than it gets credit for. Europa is like... a nice little thing, Soul is a jam.
