I think the GP is basic. Just as basic as Katy Perry. I don't hate Katy but I have little respect for someone who needs 5 other people to help her'write' a song. Gaga is the only radio artist that I Stan for. I hate pop radio in general and think it is STUPID and BASIC to listen to top 40 radio all the damn time and care about your artist slaying others or who is the top pop queen.

This is probably why I could care less how Gaga is doing with the GP. THEY BASIC AF

Pop(ular) radio is less about quality. To me, Gaga is quality in both performing and writing her own music. KP is manufactured and easy to like for the people who are as basic as her.

Sorry to be harsh but idgaf

This. tbh Gaga brings stage presence, great vocals, piano skill, songwriting skill, visual skill, and taking very next-level risks. What has Katy brought to the table that is uniquely hers? Boobs? And don't get me wrong, I have a bunch of Perry tracks on my iPod, but I don't believe that she had much to do with it.

Eh i like to think of the fame/fame monster era as David Bowies "Ziggy Stardust era"

He had some massive songs on the album and took the world by storm as the sound was new and his image was unbelievable,

he changed the face of music completely - imitators came out of the wood work and kinda cashed in on his sound/image.

His following albums failed to capture the same magic of Ziggy.(they were still great thou- and now critically acclaimed)

Alot of people wrote him off as a flash in the pan fad kinda deal.

However he managed to capture the general public's interest multiple times throughout his career and some of his later songs are today classed as his best.

As all the imitators fell by the wayside Bowie still chugged along and is the legend he is today.

I feel gaga models her career very closely on Bowies and will be in it for the long run.

so strap yourself in fans prepare for some ups and downs cos it will happen -

but don't let chart success taint the way you feel about an artist

Katy can have the spotlight for now. but she shouldn't get too comfortable there

- sorry for long ranty post

Katy did not replace Gaga but yeah she's definitely bigger now !

Why ?

Because she has a strong promo, she performed during huge events like Brit Awards and Grammy's (Gaga didn't). Katy's new album is generic, her songs are catchy and simple. Most Gaga's songs on ARTPOP are experimental and not so good as potential huge singles (to me no Poker Face or Bad Romance hits on ARTPOP)

Katy may replace Gaga when she'll be able to do very good performances, which is not happening soon ;)

good example I think. Anybody with staying power and a long career is going to have ups and downs.  The people who don't change their style tend to have a big up and then a long down slide.  Artists who change things up and grow and experiment will have a more roller coaster set of peaks and valleys.   But they are the ones who are known in the long run for what they brought to the table, because they didn't just take advantage of a particular moment.

Rihanna more than Katy. Before BTW, Gaga was that young cool b---h with the fierce personality and cool looks that girls liked/emulated and even straight guys could listen to her and she had credibilty because the quality of her music was undeniable.

Then Rihanna snatched that demographic with the Loud era while the BTW era alienated the public and most of her old fans

While Katy has gotten bigger, she is also starting to crack.  I hear a lot more negativity about her these days than during TD era.
