The way it's perceived, it sounds like a put down in this context. The thing is, you never know what is going to get the crowd moving. I think "Timber" is slightly basic, but it's still catchy and fun. By basic I mean the lyrics are not complicated and you don't have to think about what they mean or if there are hidden opinions/agendas; like chewing gum for the brain.
