En_Sabah_Nur 9,268
Minimalism is great. Example = PURE HEROINE by Lorde Basic is bad. Example = PRISM by Katy Perry Even though her songs are everywhere and always going number 1 for the most part! :P Egypt. W

Michelle 2,056
Nope, not every song has to be mega emotional and filled with metaphors, music can be just about having fun Lets go take a howl at that moon🌙 -Crowley
Tokyo Rose 1,475
Minimalism is great. Basic is bad. Yeah I think people like OP got confused about the way we use "basic" around here. We mean basic as in, same old Dr. Luke trash (Katy, Ke$ha, etc.) :unicorn:

djBuffoon 11,825
Personally speaking, no basic is not the worst thing. It sells, and to some people, that is THE MOST important thing. But if it becomes clear that the artist is phoning it in, and not putting in 100% of their passion into what they're releasing, I am not interested. TRUE!Do you honestly believe sales are a reflection of quality? lol Not in the slightest, I just know a lot of people on here scream and cry when Gaga's stuff is not number 1 or in the top 10 - but in the same breath scream Katy is so horrible and basic! Can't have it both ways!!! Egypt. W
aaronyoji 2,007
it all depends on the individual, and whats to be perceived as "basic". non basic for a lot of people here can be considered basic to some of us in the minority, like me, because i listen to a lot of different genres past pop, so sometimes the degree of "popness" to me translates to "basic ness". MANiCURE for example, its a simple, rather pointless song, sorry to say, but it isn't basic. the melodies are potent, my friend who did choir for years and knows a hell of a lot about songwriting thinks MANiCURE shows her strengths in musicality, blah blah, and the vocals are very strong, not many singers can emote the way she does in MANiCURE. so all in all, do i consider it basic? no, its a great song and takes talent to pull off. do i think MANiCURE serves some sort of purpose past all the fluff and fun? no. idek if i proved a point but yeah....
