sub 1
Gaga has done the same trashy **** when she was Miley's age tbh. She can actually sing fairly well, which I only recently found out. gaga wasn't a star. gaga was rock'n#roll in her pre-fame days. miley is just a twelve-year old girl without a clue. JaggedMonster 2
It's been four years since that performance, and while critics praised and like I said while they allowed it, we don't know how the people who actually who manage and control decisions like this responded to it, and even if they liked it, they may have simply saw this as too disturbing. It's way more logical/plausible than the fantasy wars fans love to create. Im sorry but Miley cyrus twerking mess was more disturbing then seeing blood
tokyodisko 0
I don't think it so much cemented her into the pop scene as much as it turned heads. It was controversial... it turned heads... it got people talking. It's not like what she did was monumental; we've seen this before. Using s-xuality for attention has been used for years, it's absolutely nothing new, but it worked for her because she was previously a Disney star. It made history for her, but that's it. I don't understand how it was a 'social commentary.' It was just her twerking on Robin Thicke and using a foam finger as a dick. How is that at all a commentary on society? You have to distort the performance a loooooottttt to see it as a social commentary. Really anything can have meaning added to it. I think it was about s-xuality. In the way that she owns her own s-xuality rather than just being up there to look hot, which she purposefully did't, and instead of being Robin's random "hot girl" she was acting raunchy, no more so than what guys do or say in their music. Robin was her accessory rather than her being his. If that makes sense. I think it was about female s-xuality/equality. Being a former Disney star totally helped her, and that's why she probably chose to do it that way. It was a good springboard.

And no Gaga did not get on stage and shake her ass in Robin Thicke's crotch when she was 20 Edited January 27, 2014 by TheFameMonster2
tokyodisko 0
Your original post insinuates that she would've owned the night either way because she was already some super huge megastar, which is wrong. She only became a huge star after that performance. Now suddenly it's like "oh noez! Wuts Miley gunna do next!!1!" We Can't Stop was already a big hit tbh. Applause was still shaky at that point. Miley is a megastar. She isn't as influential as Gaga by any means, but she's huge. If you're a Miley Stan you're at the wrong place. And no Gaga did not get on stage and shake her ads in Robin Thicke's crotch when she was 20 I am not a Miley stan. smh. I'm being objective. If you think that you obviously haven't seen a lot of Gaga's post-Stefani, pre-Fame stuff.
Alchemist 0
Miley is so overrated. ARTPOP has already outsold Bangerz worldwide, she's a fad. I'd rather have the GP go "WTF" than just not have any reaction from a mediocre performance. Who gives a **** what Gaga did when she was 20? She wasn't famous, and she was acting like an idiot on national television, shaking her flabby ass on an engaged/married 36 year old. Red 97,983
i agree that it seems gory and will put people off and i would have been like, "THE ****.", but i'm just upset that Gaga had to compromise so much of her original vision. It is her name tagged to this performance too and she did not get to do what she wanted. I mean, the worst and most hurtful thing you can do to an artist is take away their vision and ideas of how they want to present their art and that's exactly what they did to her. Yeah, I guess it sucks the MTV was a b---h but the backlash she would receive Some evil come for good tbh... If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. JaggedMonster 2
I think Miley's performance was more of a social commentary. Miley does not owe all her fame to just that. Be realistic. She's been a star for years. That was her version of the Paparazzi performance- cemented her in place. I didn't really care for it, but it made history. Gaga's simple performance was nice, I think it was helpful for Applause's longevity. Yeah, this is also very true. They have a budget, time frame, etc. If Gaga really wanted it, she could have offered to pay for quite a lot of it herself. Especially an artist who was fairly gone from the pubic eye and was recovering from hip surgery. It was a big risk for MTV. I hate the title of this thread. Her RIGHT to perform? lol They invited her. It was not her right. "I think Miley's performance was more of a social commentary." and what was that exactly? That twelve year old without a clue snatched every pop star's weave for a few months. Maybe it was her management, and if so, she has a better manager than Gaga did. leoj 2
gaga should pop up in the grammys and perform this performance, and then leave.. that would destroy
Alive 1
That explains why her sketch for the vma's didn't make sense :(

Because of views? Her album is doing worse than ARTPOP, and is mostly selling to her old base from disney
