seana39223 1
And? I'd rather to see monsters pissed but Gaga needs a strong lead single. NOBTR is a smash in waiting to happen. MARK MY WORDS Sorry but its hardly Poker Face or Bad Romance
AbuHassan1992 766
While painfully awaiting the release of ARTPOP, I've been left (over)-thinking the reason why Gaga's power and influence over the pop landscape has declined so heavily after Born This Way. Though it was an undeniable success, the world just didn't react the way one would expect to a new album from the biggest and most fascinating pop star of our time. The amount of worldwide success and adoration she's acquired in less than 5 years is mind blowing to say the least. At her level of super-stardom, she should've been snatching more awards and number ones than you can count with her second full-length album. But sadly she couldn't continue to be the "it-girl" of the industry and she drifted out of the spotlight. I believe the main problem of Born This Way lies in the subject matter. The composition and production of the album wasn't a factor in it's appeal (or lack of) to the GP. The music itself is pure commercial pop both melodically and sonically. It's full of simplistic, bubbly hooks and nearly every track is over 120 BPM. The problem was this: she was writing about politics, religion, and for god's sake ..unicorns. In a world full of love songs and club anthems, it didn't stand a chance. The LGBT theme was risky enough and songs like Judas and Government Hooker didn't exactly help win people over. Gaga is an artist and I'm not suggesting that she sell out and stoop to the level of Katy Perry or Rihanna. I'd rather see her flop miserably with honest, meaningful music than see her resort to working with people like Dr. Luke for a hit. But I'm hoping that with ARTPOP, she'll be able to realize her artistic vision and express her ideas but disguise it in a way that's still appealing to the GP. Like taking a controversial concept and putting it through a commercial pop filter. She had the perfect balance on The Fame Monster and I'd like to see her take a similar route, while continuing to push pop music forward and be innovative along the way. tldr: My hope for the ARTPOP era is that Gaga wins back the hearts of the GP by finding a way to combine music that honors her artistic vision with music that is still commercial enough to appeal to everyone. She did this extremely well with TFM and I hope she can take that kind of material to the next level in 2013. shut up
Wamsley 0
Th reason why BTW didn;t do AS well as we would have hoped was because of the content and competition. Sorry, but the GP doesn't want to listen to songs involving religious comparisons, political concepts and other actual issues in the world. Why do you think Adele did so much better at the time? Because the songs were relateable to everyone -- heartache. Judas is also about heartache and it had a sick beat! Why did it not do so well? Because it had religious comparisons. I get gaga likes to push the envelope a little bit, but for ARTPOP she should go in a different direction because it's not gonna look good for her. The production wasn't the greatest, but you can't solely blame it all on that
AbuHassan1992 766
NOBTR is actually a good choice for lead. It is catchy, with new production, i'm sure it will smash. At least it isn't about sex, party or money It's about ****ing though Edited December 30, 2012 by Datguy

Gaijin 440
Don't be mean, she's made a new version of it and people like the song! Some stan for NOBTR, others Musicland, *shrugs* I'm far from being mean. I've had it up to here *gestures above head* with this fan-base stating they'll leave if NOBTR isn't on ARTPOP or the ARTPOPAPP. It is so annoying. Especially when we are *ALL* desperate for *NEW* Music. Not rehashed old stuff. Yes, I know she remixed it, but for once this fan-base should stop making outright assumptions about what Gaga is/would/should/will do. I understand that some stan for it. But it was only ever a demo. Nothing more. Also, remember that Gaga said she would never release a leaked track? As happened with Earthquake (which was in itself only ever a half-completed Demo), as happened with NOBTR. I guess what I'm trying to say is; STOP getting your hopes up. Because you'll be disappointed and start raging (this is by no means directed at the person I'm quoting) when it doesn't happen. And frankly, I don't want to hear it. 珈琲ちょうだい
