Optimus 298
While painfully awaiting the release of ARTPOP, I've been left (over)-thinking the reason why Gaga's power and influence over the pop landscape has declined so heavily after Born This Way. Though it was an undeniable success, the world just didn't react the way one would expect to a new album from the biggest and most fascinating pop star of our time. The amount of worldwide success and adoration she's acquired in less than 5 years is mind blowing to say the least. At her level of super-stardom, she should've been snatching more awards and number ones than you can count with her second full-length album. But sadly she couldn't continue to be the "it-girl" of the industry and she drifted out of the spotlight. I believe the main problem of Born This Way lies in the subject matter. The composition and production of the album wasn't a factor in it's appeal (or lack of) to the GP. The music itself is pure commercial pop both melodically and sonically. It's full of simplistic, bubbly hooks and nearly every track is over 120 BPM. The problem was this: she was writing about politics, religion, and for god's sake ..unicorns. In a world full of love songs and club anthems, it didn't stand a chance. The LGBT theme was risky enough and songs like Judas and Government Hooker didn't exactly help win people over. Gaga is an artist and I'm not suggesting that she sell out and stoop to the level of Katy Perry or Rihanna. I'd rather see her flop miserably with honest, meaningful music than see her resort to working with people like Dr. Luke for a hit. But I'm hoping that with ARTPOP, she'll be able to realize her artistic vision and express her ideas but disguise it in a way that's still appealing to the GP. Like taking a controversial concept and putting it through a commercial pop filter. She had the perfect balance on The Fame Monster and I'd like to see her take a similar route, while continuing to push pop music forward and be innovative along the way. tldr: My hope for the ARTPOP era is that Gaga wins back the hearts of the GP by finding a way to combine music that honors her artistic vision with music that is still commercial enough to appeal to everyone. She did this extremely well with TFM and I hope she can take that kind of material to the next level in 2013. Actually the world did react to BTW. LITERALLY EVERYONE was waiting for Born This Way. Gaga was hyping it so much, it was the '' album of the decade''. Everyone was excited to hear BTW after the hype of the mindblowing The Fame Monster. Back in the beginning of 2011 Gaga was the biggest b---h in the industry. She was still the IT girl. The things went down, thats undeniable. And the production and composition- YES it was a factor. BTW(album) was nothing similar to hear on the radio like . You cant expect a song like Judas or Government Hooker to bloe the radio up right? Or a song like HML. What about Bad Kids? I cant even imagine how Gaga's label let het her to put this song on BTW. Look at Scheisse- the production is amazing, the beat is great. But the lyrics? The gibberish part, the feminism part? This song would have been huge with different lyrics. Hair- a good song but noisy and overproduced. Americano- horrible vocals and production... Born This Way wasnt written for the radio. Its sad that after TFM Gaga went down. Yes back in 2010 gaga didnt have a #1 song but SHE SLAYED everything. Lets hope that ARTPOP will be the new Fame Monster. Gerrard174 675
NOBTR is actually a good choice for lead. It is catchy, with new production, i'm sure it will smash. At least it isn't about s-x, party or money
Mariano 958
I Think that Gaga is stronger than ever. A lot of fans became little monsters during the BTW Era and she gain a lot of new fans during TEOG and You and I (yes the GP did not support very much You and I but she gain some fans just because of this song) and the GP can be taken back wherever Gaga put out a smash like Poker Face or even Alejandro.because Alejandro was a smash in Europe :)

It's a good a--lysis but I hate it when people accuse the lyrics for being the main reason for an artist flopping. There are tons of people who don't care about lyrics when they determine if a song is good or not and there's nothing wrong with that. I'll jam to a lyric-less piece by Mozart and be happy with it. The real reason Born This Way "flopped" was because of the music. It's not because the music was experimental but because the sound was outdated. Despite popular beliefs, the GP would rather see Gaga be experimental instead of commercial but not in the way Born This Way where it attempted to push music back with it's 80's and 90's influenced sounds but in ARTPOP's case with it's new progressive electronic sound that will revolutionize pop. My proof is that The Fame Monster was experimental and cause a trend so big that every song on the radio sounds like it. When Madonna was in her prime, she was experimental and that's the reason she's a legend today.
