christopher9413 0
so katy perry just said that she is halfway done with her album and she is working with zedd also, so all I am saying is GAGA better release something before katy does or there will be accusations against GAGA stealing katys idea!!! BloodyM 1,256
@Haunts i love your write up!! And i can totally see the art(burqa as art) and the pop(the music) in your theory. One thing i'll be afraid of is the general public reaction. Remeber the GP want the 'Blonde Poker Face Gaga' back, not so shocking yet fun, so if she does go for something like this (which i'm hoping for), it will be a big hit or miss. George Black 0
I started talking about Burqa in this thread and it lead to some theories about ARTPOP and I think it would be better if I post that here, so here it is: A burqua is something that covers not only your whole body but your whole face. (Unlike a niqab) Gaga has played with that idea of hiding her face and persona since the beggining of her career. (Poker face...) That's why she always wears glasses, right? Well, I know that's why I love wearing sunglasses, so people can't read my emotions. Also "I've got my bangs to hide that I don't stand a chance" and "A hat is a social canopy" from her showstudio interview. The burqua is basically bangs, hats and glasses that hide your whole identity. Daphne Guinness has a quote that sums it up quite nicely: "I thought by overdressing I was disguising myself and no one could see me, like the child who covers her eyes and thinks she's invisible." That's exactly what a Burqua does. You can't see who wears it and somehow it makes them more visible. I think the burqua is the ultimate fashion statement tbh. It's the only piece of clothing that hides your entire identity, while making you stand out in a crowd. I'm surprised not a lot of fashion designers played with that idea. It might also be the most empowering piece of clothing too, having your self entirely for you, like that safe/fearless feeling of being hidden under a blanket. Not having your body/face/hair projected into the world and onto the people seeing you. You can do anything if nobody can see (judge) you and you can still interact with the world. I wouldn't be surprised if when asked about the burqa, Gaga says it's like a cloak of invisibilty from under there. I also wouldn't be surprised if the song wasn't the controversial thing everybody thinks it will be, but more like an empowering poker face. (I don't think her father would love the song if it was f*cking with religion, especially islam) It is especially interesting since she's been so vividly criticized for her weight fluctuations. I would adore for burqa to be the anthem for her body revolution. Like a '**** what they say, wear your burqa, keep your body. Wear your burqa, embrace your identity.' As if it were a barrier from the exterior influencing your way of seeing yourself. I also think it will shine some light in the growing racism and islamophobia. It is interesting of her to bring that up in this time of history. It is said great art is something that can depict the time when it was created. Zeitgeist. When she wore that pink burqa at the Treacy show, I think the general reaction was a shocked effroi. Like a 'She dared wearing that, I hope she knows what she's doing'. Ouh and you remember that outfit? I would die if some part of ARTPOP was her not showing her face. She doesn't want her pictures taken at the moment, what if it's transitioning into a never seeing her face anymore? The heavy white powdered complexion she's been wearing could mean she's transitioning into white, into invisibility. What if the 'not revealing her face' was the 'horns and pointy cheekbones' of the ARTPOP era? She's been criticized for allegedly redoing her nose and lips... If she becomes some faceless entity for some song era in ARTPOP, it would be everything! The craving to capture her face would be as big as the craving to find out what she was wearing at the beggining of her career. (It is already starting with the thirst in the fanbase to get some pictures of her) Quite a lot of hints points towards her not showing her face for ARTPOP actually. The poster she had in her dressing room with ARTPOP written on it, the model had her hands hiding her face! And I'm also gonna throw that out there... The BTWBall timelapse frame: faces edited out. It could also explain why she's being so silent about ARTPOP and release dates. Because from the moment she throws a release date, she would have to be in control of her (non) image at all times and without fail. While her Fame performance was the overexposure of the popstar, what if ARTPOP is about the non exposure? Taking out the human element and letting the music be? She's known for bringing the visual element back in the music in a big way, ARTPOP may be about taking off the popstar element? If I'm right, I don't know how long she could do that, maybe only for one song era, revealing her face for the second music video? Or maybe only from the moment she starts to hype ARTPOP to the release of the music video? Or if we count on the VMA, maybe she'll reveal herself at the VMAs? The faceless creatures was a big theme for McQueen (we all remember her red lace dress at the VMAs) and for Maison Martin Margiela. The focus was then on the clothes only. Take out the Gaga and you get fashion and music. Daft Punk are definitely known for not showcasing their faces. Making the famous Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger music video a cartoon. I think it's really reaching but I'm just gonna mention it, Helen Green is part of the Haus of Gaga now, and we all know about Gaga's obsession with Disney movies and princesses. (So there you go, that's my theories, I kinda got carried away. ) I LOVE you theories! Very well written btw. Also, many pop artists of the 60's and 70's defended that art should be impersonal, that's why they didn't sign their pieces. That makes a lot of sense! I'm so hyped for Burqa now!
