Umm practically any single not released as the lead would do better if it was released as the lead. That's a lame excuse. The GP just didn't really like MTN and sure maybe timing had something to do with it. MTN is a good song (don't quite get the hype it receives) and I like it but I wasn't really happy/excited it became 5th and final single from BTW.

Also singles stand out on their own and don't support each other; the GP could love a lead single and shoot it #1 but hate the 2nd single and ignore it. It truly depends on the song and how Top 40 listeners like it.

The singles from BTW possessed her strongest vocals when it comes to singles besides Bad Romance and I think they were meant to display/promote her vocal ability. All the singles from BTW were mainly filled with strong vocals like The Edge of Glory or had important parts/segments when the vocals were really strong like Judas.

With ARTPOP I want Gaga and Interscope to pick singles however they see fit but I hope they pick a few singles that really show off her vocal talent.

I believe its underwhelming performance had to do with the fact that the general public didn't like the majority of singles/performances that came before it. By the time MTN came around no one really gave a **** because they'd already decided they didn't care for this era.

Born This Way, Judas, and You and I were just bad choices. Whether or not MTN was the lead or the second single whatever, either way I blame the BTW era entirely for MTN's underwhelming performance. I don't think the song itself was the problem.

We're treading on this topic again? Let's HOPE ARTPOP doesnt having any MTN like songs on there...

The song itself flop simply because it was terrible.. the GP judges the songs on its own merits... KAty perry managed to get hits on ALL her songs ffs... let's not blame the BTW era for the suckiness that is MTN... BTW was incredible for a sophomore album and you will deal... :nails:

I disagree with everything you just said. Literally Marry the Night was the only chosen single besides TEOG that had hit potential :fail: Let's not continue this because things will get ugly lol

#29 on Billboard doesnt translate to hit potential... we can paint it anyway we want... a terrible song is a terrible song... this topic is on future music however, not songs from the 90s...

Back to ARTPOP... :coffee:

the over arching, ever important, album titled song wasnt a good single choice? yeah okay...

and mtn is one of her best. btw is her best album to date yes, but mtn is a part of that album, and contributes greatly to her progression as an artist.

ALSO katy perrys singles all go number 1 because she feeds the publics outcry for mediocre generic pop tunes that dont challenge anything or question society or hold any emotional genuinity. the merit to songs is NOT what makes them popular, otherwise the crap spewed on the radio now wouldnt be half as popular, theres a lot of meaningless crap. and mtn had great merit.

and to all you vapid idiots out there, chart positions dont determine whether a song is decent or not! how many times do we need this ****in conversation...

No it wasn't. The production and the obnoxiously blatant message were an obvious recipe for an underwhelming single. Not to mention its just not a good song period.

Im just hoping ARTPOP doesnt retread old music ideas; it may be reaching high, but I want it to sound completely different from things weve heard before. No 80s inspired, no 90s inspired. Just new, fresh ideas.

I never really understood what You&I was about.

Bad Romance was kinda like a love song right? I need more Bad Romance like metaphors tbh, and I need disco/vertigo sticks to be mentioned on ARTPOP. Hopefully she comes up with a new 'stick' this era!!!! :hor:

....lol wut? You & I contains no metaphors, I hope you're joking lol

obnoxiously blatant? how is that a bad thing? what too PREACHY for you? get over yourself. and to ALL who have this same argument:

how the **** is there a way to attempt to actually say something with a pop song that doesnt come across as too blatant??? there is no way , you have to be brave and audacious, when you hear john ****in lennon sing about peace, is that too obvious? too obnoxious? too simple and childish? because if he had listened to people like you then millions of people wouldnt have heard his message.

the simplicity and purity of this blatant and "obnoxious" message only bugs people becuase society acts too cowardly to face the message and embrace. its not that hard, and yet to this very ****in day, everyone puts up a fight against spreading love and acceptance. our worlds progression is halted by those who think writing a positive ****in song is "too obvious and obnoxious"

gaga is completely right, people criticize her less for WHAT shes saying, and more the fact that shes saying anything at all. i know a lot of you are for gay rights, equality, and all that, and yet you all complain when gaga mentions it in her music. its because some still want her to be a vapid, useless pop tart who doesnt make us think with her music. its pathetic really.

The song was ba--l regardless of its positive message. On top of that the production was awful. There were better songs on that record and more imaginative and forward thinking ways of preaching the same message.

Do I like that she attempted to make an anthem that promotes lgbtq rights? Yes. Did I think it was a good song? No.

but not everything has to be so imaginative and complicated, the answer is so simple but gets mixed up in all the complication.

and i love the production to btw, as well as i think its a great dance record. in a way, the "messy" or as i like to call it, detailed production compliments how simple and pure the message is. but whatever, im leaving this.

Born This Way and Judas were terrible songs. Marry the Night was a fun club banger. End of discussion.

The sound was too tinny, the lyrics weren't relatable, verse 2 slowed the song down after the first chorus, the chorus isn't good because it brings nothing lyrically - the whole song says marry the night too much. "I'm not gonna cry anymore" b---h, why you crying? All you did was put your shoes and gloves on and walk down a street you like. The video is too long and poorly edited. The "m-m-m-marry" is treading on old ground as BTW's singles avoided those hooks for the most part. The hooks in the song are not there. Kissing a bartender makes you a loser? No. The only thing it has going for it is the opening verse and the instrumental breakdown. The song is impossible to dance to.

But yeah, totally the fault of the other singles. When I buy a song, I make sure I like the artist's previous singles before I buy it. Not.

No more tinny crap on ARTPOP please.
