She's not risking throwing it all away.

At least that's not what it looks like

It doesn't even seem as though she's going with the decay theme this era.

Hmm, in my opinion, she's staging things that appear like a popstar on the verge of a tailspin, like smoking weed deliberately for the paparazzi, wearing fur and provoking a bad reaction, acting quite dramatic and possibly depressed, and telling her fans that the media / public killed the blond (which is why she's going brunette, until they kill the brunette too). It seems pretty calculated to me. In a good way, of course, like this is all part of the show. I don't know. It makes sense to me :)

EDIT: All of which feeds into the narrative of the decay of the popstar. Except, instead of it being a narrative about past stars, it's about modern stars in the age of instant journalism.

The decay of the popstar theme looks like it's not even going to happen during this album :P

I would have to disagree with you. She said that the reason that she became a brunette was because "they killed the blonde superstar." I dunno, I just feel like that has a lot to do with the whole decay theme.

It's interesting though, because this is a concept she's been exploring her whole career, especially during the Paparazi days.

I think that in the past year, with all the struggles that she said she's faced, she feels like the media built her up only to take her down. They killed the blonde in her, so she's brunette until they kill her too.

Exactly  They killed the blonde, and now she is a brunette which is a new and fresh her. If the decay was any part of this era, it already took place and there will be no decay during ARTPOP considering she'll be a "new" person (BrunetteGa) during ARTPOP.

She has always smoked weed.

She was depressed during the BTW too :giggle:

True, she's always smoked weed, but I don't think I'm alone in detecting a shift in its emphasis lately. Regarding the weed and everything else, she comes across like a woman letting it all hang out, and it ain't pretty. The Gaga mystique seems to be evaporating -- which, in the worst case scenario, could mean she'll become irrelevant. But in the best case scenario, she creates the space to rise up as a brand-new kind of star.

Regarding the brunette being the new her, I think it's too early in the ARTPOP story arc to expect she's already settled into it.

For the bold, she already confirmed that she's going to wear the color during the ARTPOP era on twitter :)

And I agree that she is has a new personality this era, but I don't believe it has anything to do with decay in anyway.

I think it's mostly telling us that this era will be fun and free-spirited.

Agree to disagree, then. :) I'm fully expecting a fun and free-spirited Gaga to emerge from ARTPOP, but not without her changing her mind about everything twice, and rubbing the decay across the face of the American GP. I don't know, I just sense it coming. She's Hurricane Gaga... violent and awesome, leaves you reeling, and we all know how fast the winds can change ;)

tbh I'm not sure how excited I am getting. I AM excited for new material, and the stuff that's been coming out lately has been amazing, but this Brunettega is gonna take some getting used to. Also not sure how I feel about her emphasis on pot. I know she smokes it. Do I care? not really. Do I want to listen to music about it? Not really. I have followed GaGa for almost her entire career and will always love her, I just can't clearly see where she's headed with this one yet.

She needs to just polish the album and just not say anything else about it until its time to release a single.

I wonder if ARTPOP will have an underlying theme. Kind of like how TF was a satirical fame commentary (for the most part), TFM was about the real-life monsters of fame or smth, and BTW was about self-individualism (though it was also all over the place).

And what if it doesn't at all. Ohhhh.

I don't know about you but I think that all those fanmade themes are taking de POPART concept, and it's true that when we hear ARTPOP we automatically think about PopArt but ARTPOP is a whole diferent thing, it could mean anything, I don't know what we are getting with this new era but I think it will be totally unexpected.

That's the most accurate description of Gaga I've ever read.

What she means by saying "ARTPOP could me anything" is that it is what you think about it. If you think that it is **** - it's ****. If you think it's cool - than it's cool. It really depends how you think about it. For example, when she says the speech in the BTWB before Judas, she says "I'm not a creature of your Government, I'm not a woman, I'm not a man, but I am YOU, little monsters", she means that she is what we perceive from her. For some people, she's still a man, for us, she's a goddess, for Madonna fans, she's a flop. I guess she means that ARTPOP will be so random, because everything we think about, is true. If we believe it's true, than it's true for us. I don't know, you may not understand what I'm saying, because it's really hard to explain, but this is what I understand - this album will have soo deep metaphors that it will be hard to explain. Why? Because THEY MEAN ANYTHING WHAT YOU THINK IT MEANS.

As I said, it may be hard to explain. But I can't wait for ARTPOP. I'm sure it will change the music industry, somehow :legend:
