Um because English speaking Canadians in places other than Montreal (and sometimes Montreal) are usually made fun of/ looked down upon if we can't speak French. Someone threw a cup of pop at me once. Not my fault I didn't have the brain capacity to learn another language, also coupled with the fact that idgaf because I'm not going to go into a profession that requires i speak them both. Sorry for this very late reply Foreigners always appreciate it A LOT when you shyly try small things. It's not a necessity that you be capable of speaking the language fluently, but many appreciate a small level of their own language, because it'll make them feel a sense of pride.
